Wow what a day

i skipped the last update because other than a urine test (which dosent bear delving into) the last Dr.'s visit was a simple fetal heartbeat test. All was normal.

I might have updated even then but we were having adventures. One Friday morning after escalating for about a week (plus a few years of intermittent) David's back finally went. He woke up very early in the morning in a great deal of pain and could barely move. We trundled him down our 4 flights of stairs and into the car. Fortunately we have an emergency center very close by so we headed right off. The Dr. that he saw told us that David has sciatica. Boo. He recommended that David see an orthopedist and get an MRI. We got a load of pain meds and anti-inflamitories and put him on his 2-4 week bedrest.

A good thing for bed rest is to be given the type of pain med that knocks you out all day and happily that is what David got. We battled for about a week to get (debateably) needed aprovals from the insurance company to see the specialists and by the next Friday had to go back to the emergency center because the pain was worse. {insert rant about insurance companys and nonemergency medicine here}

A fun and distracting bit is that Davids dad and sister came for a visit at this time. I think this was more fun for us than for them saddly.

Lore did a heroic and supremely appriciated job of cleaning and hauling and cooking and keeping company on what was supposed to be her birthday trip. Happy Birthday!

Davids dad just did so much to lift our spirits and make all seem normal and familial again.

So
a good visit

He finally got in to the MRI and found out that he has a herniated disc. OUCH!
Then the day of the orthopedist apointment he was reccomended to a chiropractor. The chiropractor saw him on that very day!

i have always been a been leery about chiropractors but i am a total convert. David shuffled in like a wounded old man and sprang out again with barely a limp. Oh man so cool.

Flash forward to today.

Today was a follow up quadscreen and high resolution ultrasound. Once again everything looks normal. YAY!

i had an email from a dear friend with a list of scary and horrible things that had happened to various pregnant friends of hers at around this stage that scared the #@&*! out of me. At first it was just a "whew, i am glad that hasn't happened to me" and then it became "yet". i was not sleeping. I was a wreck. i am not sure what happened there because i am and have been perfectly aware of the risks involved in this whole process but they just never hit me very hard. The bad stuff was all physical and overall i was comfortable and even happy most of the time emotionally. So i was more than ready for this apointment. I wanted to see the heartbeat and i wanted just one medical professional to tell me that everything looked normal.

good news
everything looks normal

David went with me and, other than some awesome and halirious comments about the very apparent penis on our son, was most happy that i would be sleeping.

There is something to say here about David.

David is wonderful.
He has been so so patient with me ever since i have known him and this whole pregnancy thing has been a shineing example of his patients/support in action. I have the feeling that he cares about our future and about the baby. I also have the feeling that i am his primary care. This is so reassuring.

i am going to post some of the new pictures soon. On a normal day David would have scanned them at work and emiled them about but today has been anything but normal.

On the way to wrok after dropping me off from the Dr.'s visit this morning our left tire blew and David was granted the adventure of hitting the retaining wall on the highway going aproximately 80 mph. He did great and kept the car from careening across traffic and even though the other left tire blew on impact he got the car slowed down and kept it away from others.

He says he is fine. The tow truck took him to enterprise and they gave him a big red F150.
Anyway expect pics soon and i will keep updating about David's back. I know this post is a bit scattered more coherence to follow.

what a day
