Birthday part 2

So Kiernan is two now. Wow cliché time flies, cliché they grow up so fast cliché oh my baby is a little boy! sniff man those clichés pan out For his birthday I made him the fire truck cake that I promised and he helped with it all day. He was so into making the cake that I was fairly sure that cake baking and frosting would be the highlight of the day for him. But no! He loved the pool and was sure that he could swim. He had a few good dunkings and came up gasping and coughing and crying but would almost immediately recover and say "again swim again" he is such a brave boy. On the brave boy front here is a sad sweet story that I think really sums him up at this point. The other day he slammed his fingers in the closet (which he still calls the close-it). He had that moment of silent horrified realization and then let loose with the scared/angry/hurt cry. I was standing right next to him when it happened and he lifted his hand over his head (wailing all the while). I asked him if he wanted me to kiss it. He sort of sobbed yes. So I bent down and kissed his very red fingers. and he continued sobbing but in between sobs in a very hic-upy voice said its all better now...that’s better...you feel better and he wondered off to the living room. I am not sure if he was convincing me (I looked fairly stricken) or himself...sweet boy. After the pool we went home and had a cake and presents party. He was characteristically social and hilariously hyper and ate cake played with balloons. Everyone left fairly early so we could get a nap in. Once he woke up we gave him out present his first pair of skates and boy were they a hit! after dinner we read stories and sang songs and put him to bed. He was super wired from the party all evening and he took a long long time to fall to sleep and was chatting away in a happy tone for over an hour.
