We had a great time last week with cousin Shawn. Kiernan just adores his cousin! We made innumerable train track layouts (yay ebay for cheap Thomas stuff). We went to the splashpark in Gaithersburg. We went to church with mixed results. We ate out. Generally speaking It was ideal. I wish so very much that My sister and her family would move up here to Maryland. It was wonderful to see Kiernan so enamored of another kid and to feel without qualification good about that kid. Shawn is a very sweet boy. He was patient and creative and fun. He was instructive but not bossy and he was super stimulating. Kiernan was overjoyed every time he reappeared and sadly now that Shawn is gone Kierna keeps asking where he is." When are we going to see cousin Shawn again?" and "Where is Mississippi?".
Yay cousin Shawn!!!
We had a bit of an adventure at church...
We havent been going to church because the kids classes (Sabbath school... Cradle-roll) are at 10 o'clock in the church we used to go to and it is and hour away and Kiernan naps for 2 hours in the morning because he gets up so early. Just recently he has begun to drift his morning nap towards noon so we figgured we would try again, especially seeing as cousin Shawn would be at church.
We got dressed and Kiernan was very excited to be in his suit. (he loves dress up after all) We got in the car and talked all about the singing we would do at church (he is becoming quite the songbird) and who we would see there (in fact we couldn't find Nana or cousin Shawn the whole time). Once we got to church (an hour away) he was more than ready to get out of the car and wander around. We went to our old class and the woman/teacher said that Cradle-roll was for 0-2 and maybe we should try the 2-3 (little friends) class instead. By the time we got there they had already started. The classroom had about a dozen 2-3 year old kids and their parents. Little brown chairs in front for the kids and big brown chairs in the back with baskets of toys and instruments and props on them for the parents.
I sat in a big chair (very happy to get off my feet!) and Kiernan stood in front of me by a little brown chair. The very elderly lady in front was singing an activity song...something like touch your knees touch your toes touch your hair... this is where things went down hill rather hilariously.
The accompanist hadn't arrived yet and the teacher had the singing voice that you would expect from a rather elderly woman... Sort of low and wavery and a little off pitch. The other kids were sining (very screatchily) along and their parents were singing along (in quite their own pitch) and Kiernan was gamely touching his knees and toes and looking fairly entertained when all of the sudden the teacher just went wayyyy off key. :(
hahahah
Clearly the young maestro could't take it.
We looked up at her and said very loudly while holding up his had "STOP!"
I said "shhh Kiernan its ok she can sing."
He looked frustrated and apparently decide that he hadn't communicated well enough so he put up both hands and in a very loud commanding voice said "STOP SINGING!"
Needless to day i was more than a bit embarrassed.
I told him again "ssshhhh its ok she can sing."
Happily the accompanist chose that moment to join us and the music stopped and we were all much relieved. The piano started up and he began to bounce around happily right until the teacher started the song all over again.
"NNNoooo" he yelled "NO SINGING!"
I told him again that the lady could sing and then he looked at me with very serious eyes and said,"Do you want to go somewhere else?"
I agreed that it was a very good idea and we wandered around the church.
As deeply funny as i found all of this It indicates to me that he needs a little training in the social settings part of his life
so we have found a church that is closer by that we are going to try for a while...updates to follow I hope.
I am now 24 weeks pregnant. I feel huge.
Megan is a super kicker and I feel like I have company now all the time. I love that feeling. It has been very hot of late and I am trying to go for long walks at lunch and i am a pool of boiling Missy. I have worked on the baby registry for the last few days and just put a link up here on the blog. I got an iphone app to track my water intake in an attempt to be better about dehydration and i have been watching a lot of videos about cloth diapering. We did that for a while with Kiernan using a cloth diapering service but it didn't work very well so I have been looking at other cloth options that might solve some of the problems that we had.
I am a little worried about the plan to induce labor. I would really rather things go naturally but I understand my Dr.'s concern. After all Kiernan a first baby took 2 hours and 2nds are usually faster and the whole having a baby in the car thing is a real possibility without induction but still...
Not to get too hippy trippy here but babies generally do very well without a great deal of interference and mothers do all right as well. The artificial breaking the water thing might work and of course the pitocin will work and will hurt like crazy and I really don't have much interest in increasing the amount of pain that I will already be in not in causing any extra trauma to Meg. It is all going to be hard enough on both of us...but of course being born in the car on the way would not I imagine be a cake walk either.
