Harland Dix, 85, died September 26, 2011 at the Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born July 31, 1926 in Newton, the son of Fay and Eula Conner Dix. He was a graduate of Ellinwood High School and had attended Rice University, Houston, TX. A resident of Hutchinson since 1947, he was a glazer for Midwestern Mirror and Glass, Hutchinson. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Glazer’s Union. He was an avid golfer, he loved doing wood working, and he was an artist. He married Sue Taylor on July 30, 1949 in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include 4 daughters, Deena Rumford, Damascus, MD, Laura Patterson (Rick), Hutchinson, Terri Dix, Hutchinson, and Jan Hull (Greg), Hutchinson, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Wayne Dix, a brother, Michael Dix, and 2 sisters, Oma Jean Imboden and Mary Lou Rush.
Cremation is planned. A parish rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Hutchinson, with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM, also at the church. Inurnment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas, McPherson or the Alzheimer’s Association, both in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson.
