Well the play-set is almost there, and just in time too. I think it looks wonderful. Kiernan really likes it and we managed to snag a 10$ you-haul-it swing for Grandma and Grandpa to sit on while they watch Kiernan play.
We have painted nearly every surface on the set itself with the exception of the underside of the floor boards of the deck. Very nearly there. Next time we get a chance to go over there with good weather we should be able to finish it plus finish the grown-up swing (it has some boring bee damage) and hasn't yet been entirely stained.
Kiernan said that the ladder should be yellow, so that is our jarring bit. We have 2 baby swings that we bought and 2 big kid swings that came with the set so right now we are in transition with one each hooked up. We have been very luck to get a hold of free mulch and very cheap bits and bobs from craigslist. All told it was 50 bucks for the play-set, gift certificates for the swings and steering wheel, free sand for the sand box, free mulch and logs for the boarder and about 100$ for extra lumber and stains to fix up the old set. Originally (according to the website the building instructions were on) it was a 3500 dollar piece of equipment. So I am feeling really good about the whole thing.
If you get a chance look at the progress we have made from start through the early progress and hopefully soon you will see the finish lol.
A sort of funny aside to this whole thing is that, because David may have a promising interview for a new job, Kiernan may not end up using the play-set much other than weekend visits soon anyway. I told David, as we were painting the last rungs of the ladders, that I feel confident that now that the waterproofing is done he is sure to get the job that obviates its use lol. I am not actually that pessimistic but it would be kind of funny.
