Checking out Frederick

Last weekend we went up to Frederick to do some fun family stuff in our (hopefully) soon to be new hometown. It was very hot so we opted for the Roads and Rails museum. If you get the chance by all means check out this great must do in Frederick. It was pay and being at heart a Smithsonian girl I always balk at paying for a museum or Zoo but it was worth it. Meg's was free and Kiernan was 4$ and we were 7$  each...not insubstantial.
The museum has one very large room with an incredibly detailed landscape on it and buttons lining the mounting (table?) on which the landscape is placed. Periodically along the base there are red buttons to push that each causes some action to take place in the miniature world of the model. Kiernan's favorite by far was the button that caused a small roller coaster to run. They have step-stools for kids his size to drag around and even a small set in the cornerr with Thomas the Tank Engine (a perennial favorite at our house).
At the museum we needed a bathroom break....
Ever sense a scare from a rather enthusiastic auto flush at a urinal at the Zoo, Kiernan has been very reluctant to use strange bathrooms. So we promised him a treat if he used the bathroom at the museum(that kid can hold it!!! I saw him do the pee dance for over an hour one time trying to wait to get home instead of using a strange public toilet). This one had an automatic flush but apparently this one was "cool" lol. There is hope that he will continue to fine auto-flush cool and we wont have to worry so much about public bathroom use.

So we got ice cream at Frederick Fudge and Ice Cream. He got strawberry and David got soft serve Rum. We played a pinball game to win more ice cream but it was not to be. Then we went home to the pool.
Kiernan was car sick on the way up so it was nice to do some sitting around and cooling off after that upheaval.

Megan has begun sleeping through the night. That means 630pm-530am.
Here she is at 5:45 telling me all about the world. She is now sitting up and sort of crawling. She is an amazing roller and only uses the crawling for course correction and observation.

Look at that hilarious face!

Kiernan and Nana and I went to the mall and they rode the mall train (we are all about trains at present)

AND at the mall he started trying to read the store signs to me...he only pegged H&M but we are definitely entering some heavy literacy interest.

Behold his very first writing of his name!!!!

so far so good
