School Clothes

Today I sent out this email to some family members. Then I thought that it might be fun for the blog too, so that one day in the future I can look back at it and laugh at myself for being so wound up over nothing.

You are receiving this email because there is some chance that you will buy clothes for Kiernan in the next few months.

When I thought he would go to the classical charter school clothing was easy...
they have uniforms.

Now that I know he will be attending our local Twin Ridge Elementary school, clothing is on my mind.

My plan is to try a little bit of social engineering with his wardrobe.

1. He is a good looking boy and that will give him some extra leeway in life. I want his outfits to impress his teachers enough that they give him that littlest extra slack/attention/preferential treatment.

2. I want his outfits to not stand out so much that he gets 'out grouped'. Preppy is fine but posh will get you punched.

3. I want him to have power over his own wardrobe choices. He will feel more independent and confident if he chooses his own clothing in the morning. Unfortunately just now that means Darth Vader shirts and very clashy blue green tights. (this outfit is awesome but will probably not grant him the positive attention I am going for) So

4. I want his clothes to all match. I am planning to just get everything in the same general pallet to avoid the clashes.

I would love your input on any of this that you find relevant. What colors do you think look best on him? What pallet would allow for enough flexibility to not be boring and monochromatic? How dressy is too dressy? Any favorite brands? Any suggestions?

So far I am thinking about this kind of thing: see attached

I am aiming for no big or obvious logos, natural fibers/easy care, colors that don't wash him out (he is very pale and fairly yellow) and for the pants... something easy off (bathroom visits are still tricky so elastic is his friend). Stylish rather than fashionable...

Right now he loves corduroy and he has two favorite navy chords that are becoming high waters. He sometimes loves and sometimes hates button ups because the buttons are hard and either the shirt is an accomplishment to be proud of or a difficult scourge to be avoided at all costs. He loves putting on his church clothes and looking fancy but he tears them off for his "real" clothes as soon as he gets home. He hates wearing shoes. He cant tie shoes yet. He loves comfy clothes and would wear his jammies all the time if he could.

You will notice a large selection of blue/green checks in the attachment. This is due to the fact that he had a blue green check shirt last summer that looked amazing on him and I am looking for that again...but he got quite tired of the buttons so that is a mommy issue and not a Kiernan issue.

You can no doubt tell that I am over thinking this.
