On Monday Megan got her 'Princess Day' to make up for not being able to go to the museum with Nana and Kiernan. Aunt Licia came up and played with Kiernan while Meg's and Nana hit the town.
When asked to design her perfect Princess Day itinerary Megan chose the following: breakfast at Dunkin Doughnuts followed by swinging in the park rounded off by a trip to the library.
I think we can all agree that Megan knows how to live!
She went everywhere in her princess dress and tiara so that the world would know her for the princess she truly is.
It was pretty adorable.
Do these kids look done with T-Ball?
They are done. The season is over. It seems so short from this end. Sitting and watching them in the real heat made me ready to stop as well. It was very useful for the socialization we were aiming for. I think it ended on a bit of a low note unfortunately. After the last game we all went over to Jimmie Cone to celebrate and Kiernan ended up sitting by himself looking uncomfortable and ready to go home. I thought maybe I should engage some kid or parent to bring them over but I was chasing Megan and feeling shy myself and just didn't step up the way I should have.
I feel like I let us both down and I wish that he could have played or even just chatted with some of the other kids before we left. I don't want him to only feel comfortable at home.
It is sort of how I feel much of the time and it is a hard way to live.
There were several times this week when he had kids wanting to play with him and he would turn away from them and ask to go home or to just play with me or with me and Megan. This is the opposite of what I am trying to foster. I want him to get comfortable with the way things will be starting in August. Starting with school and then sort of just for everything. He will need to be without his known supports in school and at church and in teams and camp, if he goes to camp, so I am trying to put him in situations where he will naturally chose independence and socialization.
He is doing so well on the independence front. He is opening bags of chips and bottle caps for himself. He has gotten so proficient on the computer. He takes care of Megan and helps her do things (and reach things) that she could never do on her own.
But
He has been worryingly rude this week. Rude to other random kids and rude to us. He has also been unaccountably clingy to me. For the last few weeks he has cried sometimes when leaving me. This happens even if he is with David or with Mom. When I leave for work sometimes he begs me not to go and once when headed out for fun he burst into tears.
He recovers quickly but clearly something is up.
Megan is oblivious and happy so far as I can tell.
Yay for 2!
She has been very snugly and sweet and has gotten into a major Frozen phase. So much so that I bought the soundtrack for the car. Both kids LOVE it. We listened to it on our way to Sugarloaf Mt. on Friday and Kiernan said it was like having a movie in the car. He loves the manly ice picking (Frozen Heart) song and she loves the Do you Want to Build a Snowman song. He gets a very serious mean face on and rocks back and forth to the ice picks While pumping his fist and she sings her adorable head off and asks me to, "make it even louder mommy!" no matter how much I turn it up.
The hike was great. Megan went all the way up on her own and Kiernan ran up the stair part! We had snacks on the top but got caught in a rain shower and high tailed it off that peak when we heard a thunder roll. My calves have been aching ever since skedaddling down those wet rocks while carrying Megan!
The kids both had some hard falls on slippery rocks but enjoyed themselves despite.
On Saturday we went to meet some dogs at the All Shepherds Rescue meet and greet. We met a lot of dogs that would have been perfect if we had no kids and two that would probably work quite well despite. The problem with those two is that one of them is massive and the other has a heart condition. I don't think we are decided yet. We shall see.
After that we went to the Four County Little League carnival and post season picnic. They had a moon-bounce and face painting and hair coloring and trophy's.
Check out Mr Serious face.
On Father's Day we played video games and ate pancakes and I made summer rolls. Nana made creeper (Minecraft monsters) rice crispy treats.
full acknowledgement to Nerdy Nummies for this creeper thing.
This is a creeper face (from ThinkGeek) to give you an idea of how good a job she did.
The kids gave David sweet cards and we all gave him a cool Minecraft tee-shirt.
I got an email from Aunt Ruthie this morning letting us know that Davids Aunt Teresa passed away over the weekend so we will be going to a funeral shortly.
If you see Aunt Ruthie give her a hug.
