Up to our ears in it

Kiernan did his presentation this week. It seems to have gone well. He looks so much like my Grandpa Rumford to me in this picture. He looks so much like his Opa to David. He definitely looks like someone. While David and I were hashing out who it was Kiernan interrupted us to point out that he looks like himself.
Point well made.

Megan finished her swimming class and now has a week or two off until her next one starts. I am eagerly anticipating a time in which she is not a threat to herself around deep water.
Oh that girl!

I put several of my vine plants into the ground this week. Here you see cucumbers and zucchinis.

Over here we have watermelon and pumpkin. I had to put the tomato cages up to protect them from Pax who wanted nothing more than to tromp all over them.

Kiernan had a cough and chest congestion every evening this week.It was one of those things where he would wake up feeling fine if a bit snuffly and head off to school happily and then over the course of the day wind down to something low energy and phlegm filled

On Friday I took Megan to Scearce's.

She did lots of her favorite things and seemed very happy.

She even managed to lose her shoe in thick stinky mud, an exercise she enjoyed so much she did it twice more.

Everything is green and beautiful over there.

We wondered around and eventually headed home for naps.

On the drive home Megan became very fussy. I thought that she was just over tired and that a nap would fix things.

She woke quickly from her nap with a painful earache.
Oh man.
That earache was with her all weekend. I am so resistant to getting her back on antibiotics, especially unnecessarily. It is a fact that earaches often do not require antibiotics and it is another fact that Megan has a hard time with them. On the other hand it is so hard to know when they are necessary and when they are not. We are lucky that mom was able to keep an eye on Meg's ears with her opthalmoscope. I stayed home from work and up basically all Friday night soothing her and trying to medicate as much as her age would allow.

On Saturday morning I went with some friends and co-workers to a friends house to surprise him for his birthday with a brunch and an invasion.

He has one older dog seen above and 2 puppies that are basically Pax's age.
He is a brave man!
Happy Birthday Greg!

On Friday, on the way home, I drove by the house that David grew up in just to have a look. On the street nearby is a stand of wildly escaped Wisteria. I remember being so impressed by it in HS and college so this time I stopped and took a few flowers for my table at home and a few branches for my garden.

While at Greg's house I saw his viburnum (Snowball bush) and was smitten. He was kind enough to give me a few new growth branches to try and start as well.

So with the help of a little Root Boost I am hoping to have some beautiful fragrant additions to our flower show.

Kiernan and David dug up the septic hatch in preparation for our inspection/maintenance later this week.
Megan slept very sporadically at night and a bit better in the day so when she slept we rushed around doing chores and errands.
I mowed.

David fixed all sorts of things around the house.

Kiernan got hyper and worked out. To keep the house quiet I took Mr. hyper to the park.

This face should have clued me in but I was too tired to notice.
Kiernan's earache started here.

Megans kept on going.
I had a big paper to write this weekend for my Biology class. I just haven't been doing well in this class. It is very odd because usually if I like a class I breeze right through it but the kids have just been too sick for too long and I haven't been able to put good work together for school. David traded me kids for the night and stayed up with Megs while I kept my ear on Kiernan.

Mostly he slept and when he didn't I was happy for his bunk bed. I got a good bit of sleep on his bottom bunk and was able to help him when he needed it.
He slept until 10:24. He has never done that in his life. Obviously it was interrupted but he seemed generally functional after it.

While he and Megan were taking it easy I ran off to Walmart to return ill fitting cushions and pick up odds and ends.

Kiernan liked the new cushions.

On the other hand his ear was bleeding and gross. We thought he had been scratching it to relieve the earache. This morning mom informed us that he has a blister on his eardrum that is bleeding.
Poor boy!
Today David has taken the day off to take them both to the Dr.
Megan is now complaining about her stuffy nose and cough and not grabbing her ears. She slept till 5ish and that was a big relief as well.
My paper got done.
Today my work will be crazy as our DB transition has hit.
Happy Star Wars Day.
Obla dee Obla daa.
