Megan started her ice skating lessons this week. This is a little bit of a mirror of what we had Kiernan doing the year before school. She needs to learn to take direction rather than to be sociable (as he did) but it serves the same purpose.
She did not want to go. She told me that she had changed her mind on the morning of the class but as we had already paid it was too late to back out without a real reason, so to class she went.
She had a great time and tells me that she was a good listener. Mom says that is true for the last half of the class.
Progress.
Other progress was made this week on Kiernans Pinewood Derby car. David got the dremel out and everyone had a hand at smoothing out the cars shape.
It looks pretty good I must say.
On Friday I took Megan to the library near Scearce's so that we could get Grandma Scearce's library card working again.
Then it was back to their house for some exploring with Megan and Pax.
They ran all over the place and I chased after them.
It was pretty cold but Megs was more interested in being out than in being in and I was all for that.
For the last few weeks (I blame Christmas) she has asked to go to Target for Mommy and Megan day. She always wants a new toy.
She dose not need a new toy!
She has tons of toys.
So I have been making sure to take her out. Out to the nature center out for a mini-hike out somewhere not a store. She has a great time and I am hoping that a few weeks like that in a row and she will stop asking to go shopping for her adventure day.
Remember last week when David fixed my broken heater by removing the mouse nest built in there?
Here is the mouse. I am leaving the trap in my car because usually if you see one mouse you have 3. So far no more in the trap though. The kids were very interested in this one. I was very happy to see that the trap hit right where it should. That mouse likely never knew what hit him.
I have seen some really inhuman sticky traps and some only marginally effective poisons and some lazy cats or some overly playful cats and for my money nothing beats a good fast spine breaking snap trap.
We had one in the garage that almost didn't work and caught the mouse by the muzzle. I was worried there might be something slow or defective in the trap but this time everything worked out well.
Over the weekend Kiernan painted the first coat on his car. David helped him mix the paint and then I drew a rough sketch on the wood that Kiernan hated and promptly erased and redrew (good for him!).
only 2 more coats and it will be ready to go next weekend. As long as there is no snow (as is expected).
I took both of them (and Pax) for a hike again, this time to work on a cub scout requirement. We picked up litter (a whole bag full!) and looked for animal signs and identified some plants.
They were both very enthusiastic about their roles as conserves of the earth. It was pretty great.
We got a tiny snow on Sunday.
I woke up with a sore throat and so spent the day on the couch drinking tea and thinking healthy thoughts. The kids on the other hand were so excited by seeing the first snow fall of the year that they spent much of the day out back.
They made snow men and threw snow balls.
They are very much looking forward to Kiernan's birthday snow.
We shall see.
