10 July 2017

4th of July week

It got hot and we got the pool going.

We went to the ice cream place.

Mozzarella and pesto and tomato things happened.

The long evenings lead to long dog walks out in the fields.

The kids spent all weekend and then Monday and Tuesday celebrating the 4th of July.
Mostly this involved desserts and red white and blue outfits.

We even had people over for our traditional 4th of July tie-dye.

It was very social and fairly congenial.

We all had our own ideas of what that might mean.
For me it was food.

The kids each had a guest.

Kiernan and AJ sat by the desserts in the air conditioning and chatted with whoever came near.
David got to catch up with Kerry (with whom we all used to work).
Everyone brought tasty foods and most everyone did some tie-dye. My unusual item this year was a pair of white keds.
Megan actually got to them first.

Mount Airy dose their fireworks on the 3rd of July so we packed a picnic and went over to the school to see them.

Kiernan got sick but insisted on coming with us.
He wore his jammies and threw up twice but would not be parted from the night.
My poor boy.

I tried a new recipe that I am super happy with. I wanted to make fried chicken because it is summery and picnic-y and I am so glad that I did.

Megan ran around like a crazy person and found friends from school and from Kiernans cub scouts.

Mom and I hung out.

Occasionally I talked to or petted poor Kiernan.

The fireworks were good and far enough to be quiet (thats good for all of us but I can forsee a time when Megan will want the noise).

By the next moring Kiernan was well again and planning out  a nice raspberry pie from the berries he has been picking.

David once again demonstrated that he is the best tie-dyer of us all.

Everything looked pretty good though.

David rinsed and turned his hands blue.

I read and talked to the kids about the Declaration of Independence.

The kids practiced with a quill and ink set to see what their John Hancock looked like.

I did too.
Thanks to aunt Lore for bringing back this cool set from Boston.
This was our colonial stuff for the holiday.

My cooking mood continued and I finally made the breakfast burritos that I had gotten ingredients for

When I started cooking Kelsey called from the tarmac of Dullus waiting through a long delay to get to Denmark.
So I gave her the burrito making blow by blow.

I know have many pictures of this process.

We did out own fireworks and the kids were enthralled.

I went to the dentist and got my root canal.
The experience itself was not that painful at all...just long.
I am still paying for it though. It has been almost a week and it still hurts to chew and a wake up every morning reaching for the ibuprofen.

David has been working on a cool new project.
