Frederick had some major flooding. Mount Airy is too hilly to suffer much from it but it did rain for what felt like forever.
Fathers Day happened. I got this picture of my father and my son to send around.
Good gracious the resemblance.
This boy is now a WEBLO I (the last rank of Cub Scouting. It takes 2 years to get through so hes not done by any stretch. Look at him dance across the stage. Dose anyone else remember that he was literally clinging to my legs at Cub Scouts when we started.
I'm so happy with this program and with his progress in it. This summer I signed him up for Cub Scout Camp and I suspect he will not appreciate the interruption to his summer break but I am still so thankful for what the activities and socialization have done for him.
Worried clock packing above.
My Dad and Mary got into the nitty gritty of their Hawa'ii move.
This means that we got several boxes of stuff and this beautiful grandfather clock.
It was a major adventure moving that thing. We were so worried about damaging it. Then once we finally got it wrapped like a baby and into the back of the pick-up the truck wouldn't start.
Happily my dad showed us a trick for bridging the solenoid with a long handled screwdriver. We drove back praying not to stall the truck. We made it but still need to get the truck into the shop.
Concerned truck inspection...
Before school ended I got to go see the kids at filed day. It was mega hot. Megan was red as a beat and Kiernan ended up going home nauseous and head-achy.
Mom got her fair share of heat as well. She started some part time work selling goat cheese at a farmers market for Kappricorn Farms (the place we go to to see the goats and where Kelseys friend Elise (see above) works.
Its very hard work for mom. On the other hand I got some free goat cheese.
YUM!
We did an escape room with the usual crew (plus Alex next to David above) and for the first time solved the mystery.
We pretended to be lab workers saving Frederick from an evil bomber.
Success!
It is summery now and I love my flowers.
Even more than that I love fresh fruits and veggies. We got a nice mess of asparagus at Scearce's. I introduced it to the kids. Usually i don't bother because I am greedy but this time we had so much i handed it out liberally. Kiernan ate all of his but Megas pretty much had a single stalk and ran away.
We went with Pack 1191 to plant flags on the Veterans graves for Memorial Day. It was hot and Kiernan lasted a very short while and then went home and layed down.
Megan was super jazzed to be doing her first Cub Scout activity.
She is impatient for her uniform.
Look at these flowers!
I love them.
Look at this cool beard bead that I also love on this excellent husband whom I also love.
We've started the summer cook out season.
Grilled food and kiddie pool and hiding in the shade is great.
I tried a weird thing with ramps and yellow squash.
But true to tradition it is also Jimmie Cone time.
Geoff had the best birthday cake made of cupcakes.
I got a super comfy kaftan.
I felt very much like my fathers daughter wondering around in it.
The strawberries are making it easy for the squirrel by pretty much only fruiting outside of the chicken wire.
We had a super fun play date with cousin Kaleb.
We bounced and climbed and tried a warped wall.
Kiernan was nervous about the heights but came back to try it again after backing out and he got quite high.
David got to try several warped walls and has gained respect for America Ninja Warrior athletes. Also he gained some wicked road rash on his elbows from the descent.
My crazy monkey girl climbed all of the things!
Also she has invented a narwhal dog. Look at how proud she is with this improvement to the lowly corndog.
Last day of school pics say it all.
In the morning waiting for the bus:
After School about to leave the building.
Megan will miss her friends and Kiernan will play games every waking moment.
School ended and we went to the Cub Scout annual Ice Cream and Fishing social.
Megan is super happy to be a Cub Scout. She got a few bites. We used corn instead of worms and that was much nicer for me!
Kiernan had a filling in and for the first time used a non-pediatric dentist. He did very well.
I did an insane thing and joined Megan for a Girl Scout overnight event.
14 girls under 8.
Oh Man!
They had such a good time and told scary stories (one which called for a large scream of the Toe! the toe!) and sang songs and barely slept.
The yard settled into a very summery green.
We had a great day of experiments in which sushi was made and devoured.
David and Kiernan are eating fish quite a lot lately and it seems to be helping with both of their health.
I made a cool glass jewelry thingy that will probably become a necklace pendant.
I will post a picture of Megan's when we collect it. It was very colorful.
I had a strange professional return to Qiagen Germantown for a training.
I really like Frederick but its hard to resist the charms of Germantowns amenities. I drank lemonade on a patio and ate grilled corn. It was really nice.
The training was for 5S and LEAN and I have completed the training and the exam but have to do the project still. It was really fun and as you can see above my team made a very respectable marshmallow tower. We in fact won.
This picture is simply to illustrate how cute Megan is.
David has been a little under the weather and I am against it.
Mom and I volunteered for the mid Maryland Celtic festival. It was cool to hear the music and see the sights but my experience was fairly mixed. I showed up at 6 to deliver trashcans and be done by 8 but wheni got there they told me that i want starting until 9 and then would work until 11. I stayed for both shifts and helped out but was not doing what I had signed up for and was therefore a bit discombobulated as I had a lot of appointments that day.
David brought the kids over and they had fun.
Megan had a whirlwind experience of running from one festival to another and then to a birthday party.
Also Go Caps!
We went to mow at Scearce's. Poor Kathryn's dad got a terrible case of shingles.
Kiernan was for the first time stronger than grandpa Scearce and so did as he should and took some of the burden.
He complained about the heat a bit but he worked. He even made a bit of a dent and I was very proud of him.
We embarked on an epic journey to TN.
We conquered new lands and new lunches.
No rest stop was left un-conquered.
In the end we made it to my excellent sister and her family.
We went on walks and hung out in the garden.
We went to Nashville Shores (a water park)
Megan had a good time but also got her first sunburn ever. Poor Megs.
The kids played with their cousins.
They ate sorrel clover.
I took turns sleeping with the kids and they loved it. Megan kicks like a pro futballer and Kiernan sleeps ridged as a board and you would never know he was there.
I took these pictures at the same time with me in the middle.
I love these sweet kids.
I somehow convinced Jessica to go plant shopping with me.
Our tastes in landscaping overall is pretty different. She loves simplicity and flowers and very low maintenance and I love multilayered jungles of green and flowers and low maintenance.
We have a nice flower overlap and went with that.
Also she got some blueberries. Yum!
We left after a night of fire and bonding.
We got home for World Cup games and Kiernan actually wore his jersey!
Davids company picnic was the day after we got back. We took Megan but Kiernan was having none of it. No more car trips for him.
We went to the Maryland science museum in the inner harbor.
It was a great museum.
Megan got to stand in a tornado. She has been obsessed with tornadoes for months now.
We had lunch on the roof. It was beautiful.
Also it was fancy and delecious.
Then I went to my dads house to help with the last of the packing up.
They had much more left to do than anyone expected because my dads back was out for 2 weeks before the signing.
Family and friends swooped in to help but it was touch and go and backbreaking for poor Dad and Mary
I took commemorative pictures of the yard and the flowers. I thought about how it was the
I wish I could get my fig tree to do this.
Goodbye Hyattsville
From now on this group will meet in New Market at Aunt Becky's house or in Mount Airy at mine.
While we were away David made me this, amazing I love it so much , mudroom bench.
