The season is beginning to turn. The summer is over vibe is pretty strong now. The monarchs are starting up. School is in session. I am taking Renaissance literature this semester. Its quite nice.
David and I took one more day for our anniversary. We went to a hotel in Frederick and watched crappy sci-fi. We went to Wegmans and got some god cheese. We slept in. We moved from meal to meal like manatees.
I got to take him to my favorite Pho place (thank you Kelsey!).
The real world came back and I went to the dentist for a cavity filling.
While wandering around on our anniversary day we got a new TV. We have moved the old TV into the office and now how the retro pie and roku all hooked up in there for games and tv and alternate space when someone (Megan) is watching something (YouTube) that the rest of us could do without.
I was supposed to have a wax seal making class at Haven but it got postponed.
I worked on my design for it though.
I think I am going to use some version of this.
I love dragons and that is my lyre (a thing of which I am most proud).
I ordered a few small light axes for the kids to try throwing in the backyard.
We need to cut some rounds from our lumber out back and then we can all throw axes together.
The tiny axes are called mouse-hawks. I love that name.
The chickens from next door are spending a great deal of time at our place now.
We have been adopted by chickens and a cat so far so good.
I made a very nice breakfast burrito spread.
I got a new jacket that I think is super cute.
Megan decided that we needed a shopping girls day out.
We went to the mall and rode the carousel and bought all the hair dye in the world and got macrons.
Once we got home she had the special stylist treatment.
She wanted a rainbow head.
David decided if she wanted a rainbow head he would make sure it was the best rainbow head.
It looks professional naturally and she loves it.
We went out back to chose some wood to make into targets.
They were too wet and slippery for me to move. This is another job for super David.
I found some 4 leaf clovers at work.
Kiernan got sick on back to school night.
I talked to his teacher about his anxiety and stomach issues.
Lately hes been talking pretty negatively about himself. I don't like it.
The transition to school has gone more smoothly this year than in years past so I am hopeful about that.
Also his teacher has some experience (14 years?) and that makes me feel better too.
Megan is great with a fresh faced infant brimming with enthusiasm but I really want Kiernan to be in the hands of someone who has seen it all.
We played D&D
I got my first nartural 20. It was a night for it. I think we had 4 in all.
A natural 20 means " A natural 20 is when you roll 20 on a 20-sided die (most commonly used by Dungeons and Dragons). In almost every system this is a critical success, meaning that whatever you did happens without question, even if it should be impossible for you to do based on your skill scores or stats.".
We went to the Renaissance Fair.
The kids were super ready. So was I. It was a Haven invasion day and initially it was a day to go with work but work didn't go.
I got David something for his anniversary present for a viking costume and he wore it and it looked great.
Megan got called "Lady of the Rainbow Hair" by a worker there and Kiernan was super impressed.
The weather had been pretty dicey. We were expecting a hurricane but it turned south. So attendance was very low. I have never seen it so low on such a nice day before. In practical terms it meant that we got seats everywhere and we didn't have to wait in line for anything.
We are stating a new experiment with the kids.
David has been eating meat for the last few months. He is needing some nutritional boosts due to his crohns and he thought Kiernan should try some too. This is mostly because the fish has really helped Kiernan and David was hoping for another helpful avenue.
This is a picture of Megan just before she tried a turkey leg.
She thought it was OK but not great.
Her face though.
I was going to buy boots this year but they are just too expensive.
the small ones above are 180 and the big ones are 550!!!
We stopped by the Haven table and tried out a game.
Kiernan and I learned to play As-Nas which is very like poker and Persian and from the 16th century.
It was a gambling game.
Kiernan won on his very own merits (high suit 2 of a kind). That boy was chuffed.
The kids played at the playground and slid on the slide and were ready to go.
Realizing that we had missed the Bee Sting drink that was one of our goals for the day we diceded to try to make it at home.
It was a fair success.
The next morning I made Thai omelets and then Kiernan made a few.
I took the truck to Scearce's with Pax and Megan.
I took the kids to an SCA picnic.
They were having a really interesting archery tournament.
I think I will enter next year. I don't have any arrows and am afraid of breaking theirs but I have some on order and they are super laid back and non judg-y. The guy who ended up winning was hanging out and talking to me and to the kids and it was all very chill and fun.
Megan had success with throwing knives and Kiernan had success with axes and knives.
He was pretty done when we left though and needed to lay down once we got home.
He therefore missed the first Cub Scout meeting of the year.
Megan on the other hand is now a Tiger Scout and missed nothing.
It rained for much of the rest of the week
I am working on my last two shakers.
The kids got out of school for fair day.
I found it to be super stressful. Kiernan was having a hard time and Megan was wild and over stimulated.
There were definite highlights though.
Look at these goofballs.
Still summer but just barely now.
