Renn fair and Cousin Katie's visit

I am working on a ukulele song and project.
There is a medieval instrument called a citole that is 4 stringed and small and eventually became a fiddle but for my purpose is basically a ukulele.
I am going to try to convert this pineapple ukulele into a cheap version of one.
Wish me luck.

I got my flu shot.

We are doing a very scientific blind taste test of spaghetti sauces.

I finally got to grinding the long pepper spice I got.

The little grinder I got wasn't quite doing the trick so I eventually broke down and got a coffee grinder.

I found some beautiful flowers on my work walk.

We drove off to the Eastern Shore to pick up cousin Katie.

It was a beautiful day and the water was cold but still good.

The cousins buried each other.

We got mugged by seagulls.

We drove home and got sushi.

Then some of us went to Baltimore (Sound Stage) for a mongolian heavy metal show. Thanks to Aunt Lore for the excellent plan.

Here is the band. They are called the Hu. I like them a good bit.

Cousin Katie flew out and Megan was so so sad.
The first night she cried.
We are all hoping or a longer visit soon.

I have too many projects in mind and not enough of them finished so we spent some time working on my jorvik pipes.

I got out a bunch of scrap wood and made a few and this time they worked.
Last time I was only able to get raspy squeeks out of them but partially that was because last time I used ceder and ceder makes my lips itch so I gave up pretty quickly on the endeavor.

The top one there is the ceder from last time

They made real scale sounds and once I landed on an oil for them (Walnut which is food grade and doesn't stain very much) they sounded and looked great.
They weren't perfect but I felt ready to actually go out and get good instrument wood to make real versions instead of the million draft copies I had been working on.

I loved it so much last year that I purchased a number of things throughout the year to use this time.
My favorite thing so far is the little mixing tray but that is followed closely by having several colors this year instead of just black.

Here are all my art supplies bought expressly for Inktober.

Each day I will follow the prompt and try to do an ink drawing.
I am not inlove with how they come out but the process is so soothing and meditative and I have been fighting the anxiety pretty hard and this helps a lot.

The leaves are starting to change.

Megan is super excited about Halloween and had begun to decorate the yard and the house and her room.

I took a sick day at my new job for the first time.
I caught a cold and was very tired from the insomnia my anxiety is giving me.
I went to do a few errands and then spent the day not moving much.
The best of my errands was picking up the good wood.
I got hard maple and south american boxwood.
The original pipes were made of European boxwood but that is a very slow growing tree and its almost impossible to get any. I chose the south american because i thought it might be close even though its a much softer and more quick growing tree and i chose the maple because it has a similar density to the original.
I went to Exotic lumber in Frederick and the woman working there helped me so much.
What a great shop!

I have been putting more pegs on my peg board and putting some bins on my bench so that i have more free space to work and spend less time searching for things.
I love how its coming together.

The maple is super pretty just look at that.

We finished a long running campaign at D&D. We survived by the skin of our teeth.

I got Minecraft photobombed working on my Inktober. ha!

We went to the Renaissance fair!
I love the Rennisance fair.
The kids had several goals.
Kiernan wanted to eat.
Megan wanted to scare Henry VIII (she knew that Anne Boleyn was accused of being a witch) and she wanted to buy something.

Megan bought a fox tail.

They both played at the playground.

Megan got to scare the king.

I got a wonderful new belt.

I got to see my excellent friends.

Kiernan got to get his Tudor style hat.

and a root beer.

Dose this king look nervous to you?

Last tomatoes are being harvested this week.

Mt Grandma Rumford had a fall and broke her hip. We were all pretty worried but she seems to be fine so far.
Mt dad flew out from Hawaii and is now down with her and we are hoping to go see them in not too long and maybe to help out with the house reconstruction that was in part responsible for her trip.

I heard that there were lay offs at my old job and nearly everyone involved with my old group was affected.
A few (Michelle and Krishna) had moved to other departments but it was a blow for sure.
It had me shaking the whole day.
I met up this week with my friends and got so much comfort from them. I love those people

So far so good.
