Oct 2024

Megan turned into a teenager in October. She had a sleepover and went ice skating and ate lots of fun foods (mostly pasta as the good Lord intended).

For her birthday she got a new bike so that she wont need to steel her brothers anymore. I took this picture riding around a cemetery in Frederick with her.

She and her brother did a great chose for me. They took off the door and cleared it off and repainted it. Good gracious it looks better. Also now the kids can take a door off and put it back on really really quickly. Most impressive.

We did a number of dress up and Halloween activities this month. Some of them I have been meaning to do for years and some just good old fashioned tradition. This is my coworkers house. She and her family do up their house and yard and open it up to the neighborhood each year.

As her birthday is Halloween week we tend to sort of spread things out over the time.
I feel like she had a great one this year.

Halloween night was bizarrely warm but the sunset was one of the best I've seen over the entire year.

Kiernan made up a costume based on one of the first games he ever played. I present to you Crazy Dave of Plants vs. Zombies.

I voted early this election. A lot of people did. There was a line at the library and one dude who was super geared up to pick a fight. He yelled at an old lady in the parking lot coming in. He was right in his stance (he is allowed to wear anything he wants to a polling place) but just weirdly angry and aggressive.  The judges handled him so kindly and gently that to some extent he was diffused but it was somewhat intimidating. Also his hat and shirt were sweary (F**k Harris and F**k Biden respectively) and troubled a little boy in line behind us.
I wish people wouldn't be like that.

I went all out with the Halloween decorations and was proud of the results.
I finally remembered to take out my skeleton flamingos that I've had but not used for years now.

Kiernan in keeping with his theme did a plants vs zombies pumpkin. The squirls and deer twins took it apart in about 3 days.

The leaves were beautiful.

Kiernan started running a few D&D games for us. Good stuff!

I started printing book nook Dragons for myself and friend's and family.

CSA kept on giving.

Mom got a cool pumpkin.

I 3D printed some skulls and borrowed Megan's mask for my Halloween mantle.

I finished putting down the stone for my prayer labyrinth

We got to see the aroura. I've always wanted to see them and they came to me.
They showed up better on the phone than to the naked eye but i could see them both ways.
Huge thanks to Krishna for asking if we could see them or I wouldn't have run up the hill to look.
It was 100% magical.

I took a good picture of myself and changed all my profile pictures to it. This is how I spend most of my days at work. I am listening to a book or a podcast or music and drowing out teh machine noise of all those robots.

Here now you can listen to what i was probably listening to in the picture too.

I think my printed skulls turned out really well.
I prefer the anatomical ones to the spooky Halloween one for a number of reasons. Here is a timber wolf.

October also brought my favorite crafting event of the year. Inktober.
I drew everyday on two separate challenges the first was the normal Inktober list and the other was a Ringstober (Lord of the Rings) challenge

We went to the PA Renaissance festival. I hadn't been to it before. It was very different from the Maryland version. I knew it was going to be so instead of dressing in vaguely historical Celtic garb I dressed up as a LARP-y wood elf. This is a result of the cosplay at Otakon in large part.

Larp stands for Live Action Role Play. It’s basically the term for people who play let’s pretend with dress up. It’s lovely and nerdy and of highly variable quality.

Look at that girl!

There were many more places to eat and sit than in the MD fair and we benifited from coffee shops and doughnut holes in the morning.
Huzzah!

Because I was being Larp-y I had comfy shoes and pockets. This did not stop me from dropping a quest note that I’d paired 5bucks for straight off the bat.
Ih well. I will try again next time.

My fancy wold elf get up with matching hair.

We got all sorts of weird mushrooms and heavy rain in October.

Excellent month.
