What a time to host residents of Japan. Kathryn and Erena got to the US a few weeks ago and Yoshi has been and gone. Yoshi missed the quake by a few hours and didn't even know about how big it was until he landed and we told him.
We spent his time here glued to nhk international which was stressful but helpful.
Kathryn says that the whole thing reminds her of 9/11. She was in Japan watching the news and feeling like she should be here and surrounded by people who treated tragedy as spectacle an now she is here watching her home of 13 years go through its own tragedy treated as spectacle from the other side still feeling like she should be somewhere else.
They are ok and their family is ok and their house is a mess but still ok.
We are glad they are and were here.
Kiernan loves his uncle Yoshi and he adores his aunt Kathryn....he is a bit more ambivalent about Erena. He is interested in her and bothered by he. He doesn't know what to make of her. He doesn't want her to touch her. He has a few toys that she must not touch but then he says they are friends and brings her toys of his anyway. He avoids her and competes for her attention. He looks for her when she is not around and seems to long for time alone without her.
Yoshi saw something on TV in Japan quite some time ago about the Amish so our two big goals for his trip were to see the Amish and to get him a new tattoo.

this gecko is now on the back of Yoshi's calf.As he and Kathryn were busy with the artist (Stray from Curious Tattoo Inc.) I slipped away for a great cup of Jasmine tea. Yum!
with a pool and a petting zoo and a great smorgasbord. Mostly Kiernan ran around and I got lots of great shots of the back of his head as he ran past me lol.
