Tongue Tie x2

So Megan has tongue tie. Kiernan had it too. I find it somewhat poetic that two introverts such as we are have produced tongue tied children 100% of the time. It seems weird, I hadn't even heard of tongue tie as an actual thing before we found out that Kiernan had it.
We have been having some trouble with nursing. At first it was all about Meg being in the NICU and me being on the mother and baby ward...sort of a they take the baby and leave you with a pump problem. And then when she got all of the tubes out of her nose (canula?) she was just too sleepy to nurse well. It is normal for preemies to be lethargic. Then of course she was used to bottles and they are easier. One of the conditions for letting her out of the hospital as soon as she was released, was that I continue pumping to make sure her bilirubin levels dropped. So we started trying to do the nursing thing for a few minutes before each bottle. For about a day that worked pretty well but then she started screaming every time she saw a breast...ok not all breasts but it is my blog...
This was needless to say very disheartening.
We made a bit of progress away from crying and even had a few longish sessions (20 min vs 3-5) and then she started cluster feeding.
Holy cow is she hungry. I upped my pumping time by x2 then x4 and I can barely keep the fridge stocked.
It gets down to a few oz and I start getting panicky. There is no time for pumping except when she is sleeping but then I don't sleep and the milk production drops like crazy. :(
Yesterday at her 2 week check up I found out that she is doing very very well!! She is up to 6 lbs and has all the right reflexes. I asked the Dr. to check her tongue because of how things had been with Kiernan.
Yup. Tongue Tie again. So we are waiting to hear back from the pediatric surgeon so that she too can have her tongue clipped. Hopefully thereafter nursing will be easier and the pump can be put away until I have to go back to work.

Kiernan has said the following things about his sister.
1 "Meg is our sweet baby."
2 "She is like Erena."
3 "Her head is fluffy. Megan you are fluffy."
We have been having special mommy Kiernan time at the park. It is so worth losing a little nap time to see him like this. Everything seems to be going well. Fingers crossed.

In other news David makes a fantastic Guy Fawkes.
