1 week down 18 years to go

Meg has been putting us through our paces. We are reacquainting ourselves with the 2 hour meal plan the sweet baby cuddle and the anxiety of the unknown. Earlier this week she had some blood in her stool and a low grade fever. That had me more than a bit freaked out. Happily the blood has not reappeared in any subsequent diapers and though she is still warm mom has just taken her temp (with the golden standard of a rectal thermometer oh the huge manities) and she was at 98.5 so all is well tonight. Just now she is curled up on David sleeping peacefully. She tends to sleep with one or both arms behind her head...it looks very casual indeed.

Kiernan is having a fairly easy time of it. We have had a few meltdowns of the heart breaking variety but overall he is doing very well. Each episode of burn out or frustration is shorter than the last and his sense of stability seems mostly to be intact. He is still fun sweet and in all ways admirable :)
We have made very little of Megan's presence ...she is simply here. We have tried to and are trying to allow things to progress slowly between them with no pretense. It seems to be working. Yesterday as we were reading a story he reached out and started stroking her hair. Today he has been repeating the little grunts and sequels that she makes. He has begun to great her when he walks into a room.

Today we had several milestones pass. Megan's umbilical coard fell out and now she has a belly button. Kiernan got his biannual hair cut and now he looks a bit more like a boy and less like a toddler than ever before. David shaved into the likeness of a Guy Fawkes mask in honor of this 5th of November.
It all feels domestic and doable.
