For Memorial day we went to downtown Rockville to the parade. Good things and bad things happened. The good stuff: getting candy from the passing paraders, playing in the road, recovering in the dragon pool and drinking smoothies to cool off.
The bad stuff: parking inside the parade grounds and getting stuck when both kids were past ready to go home, Kiernan crying because his back hurt (What on earth happened to his back!), Megan being totally thrown off schedule and not sleeping most of the night.).
There was a very moving speech by a veteran of the current war. He talked about support for troops reintegrating into society. There was clapping and speeches and a color guard and a martial salute with guns (Kiernan was surprisingly completely unfazed by the noise) and lots of kids everywhere.
I was practically gnawing the steering wheel anxious to get out of there by the end though. Kiernan in pain really freaks me out. Poor Megan was just tired and fussy but fussy on top of jangled nerves is rough.
Originally we were going to moms house for a post parade cookout but we retreated home and stayed there for the rest of the day.
The weekend was overall fun. We had a late mothers day with grandma Mary. I made some Cuban food and we went to the park. It was completely summer HOT!
My car temp actually read 100 for a minute. Blarg.
