Memorial Day Weekend and recovery

When last you saw me I was doing very poorly and had just returned from the hospital. That was Wednesday. Thursday I just slept. I got up for lunch and dinner and that was it. Drugs and sleep and small amounts of food.

On Friday I got up and we went to the mall. Mostly at the mall I sat while the kids ran around and bounced in the bouncy castles. We stopped at noodle company and got some Mac and cheese and it was all too much for me. I got a bit sick again. So we went back home and I went back to bed for another 10 hours. The mall was really cool and I hope we go back to that Paradise Fun bouncy castle place again.

Behind Megan is a couple that I was too shy to talk to but I am 90% sure that I knew them when I was Kiernan's age. (That's Don and Benji right family?)

On Saturday we went to church and I felt tired but much more functional. Kiernan lead his class in both prayer and song. He wanted to get up in front at every opportunity. He wasn't always sure what to do once he got there but he sure wanted to be there.
After lunch we went to Jimmie Cone.

Clearly this was very exciting.

Also delicious. I wasn't feeling up to eating much but it was so much fun to watch the kids enjoying themselves. While we were there David went across the street with our housewarming gift of Ace Hardware gift certificate to buy a lawn mower. Thank you Chris and Pammy!!!!

On Sunday morning I took the kids to Scearce's to play on their playset and see Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Licia. The flowers were in bloom but as you can see in the background trees are coming down from all the rain. They had one down on their phone/power lines this week too. While the kids and I were there David painted the basement some more.

There are clearly some spots to sand down but I think the yellow is just gold enough to work in dark and light. I guess this will depend on your computers color display but it looks good in person.

Additionally over the course of the weekend all the grown ups worked like crazy on the yard and on the garden. What once appeared to be a reforestation project has morphed into a yard!
I love mowing. I find it really meditative. I always do best when moving and there is something so satisfying about seeing real change as you move around the grass.
I did more hosta transplanting and lots more gardening (in small chunks).

Here is an excerpt from my Google+ garden update "Salsa garden to the left with tomatoes (Taxi yellow and Early girl) and hot peppers (Crimson and Jalapeno) so far. Vine-y garden to the right with peas (the tee-pee) pumpkins, squash, eggplant and hopefully tomorrow cucumber. On the deck the heirloom tomatoes and the lettuces. On the side of the house the herb and sweet stuff garden with a blueberry bush and soon a fig tree. Lots of flowers in this weekend too."

Here is Nana giving the vines some 'welcome to your new bed' water. Below you can see that David has lowered the basketball hoop to kid height. He gave the kids turns at dunking height by lifting them up to test it out and then let them have at it unassisted. Lord! they are dangerous!

Lastly, for the first time since moving out of his parents place when we got married, David got to wash his car in his own driveway.
The kids 'helped' and enjoyed the whole process immensely from what they tell me.
One of my fondest High School/College memories of David was this super diligent concentrated look he would get on his face when washing his car and his moms car. He loved doing this and he loved having shiny pristine vehicles to drive.
I only caught the end of this wash ,as you can see, but it just made my heart so glad to see him out there, able to do that thing that he loved once again.
