David put eyelets and hooks under the deck so that the kids can now swing in the comfort of their own yard.
I am hoping this week to get some pea gravel to line the under-deck with because now that I have cleared it out all the rain has turned the entire area into a mud pit.
On Wednesday I found Kiernan's much desired Kura bed on Craigslist for a great price. There were many offers so in order to secure it for ourselves we had to rush over and pick it up that afternoon. When I say we I mean David of course. After unloading all the parts and beginning assembly David discovered that it was missing the following circled parts.
Ikea dose not replace parts without an original receipt...probably mostly to discourage 2nd hand buyers like us.
The kids and mom and I went to the Mount Airy Lions Club Carnival while David worked on the bed.
Kiernan was at first confused
and then delighted by cotton candy.
He took me down this huge slide. This was horrible. The slide part was fine but I have a new abscess and it is on my butt and there are several large seams as you can see on this slide. AAAAAA OOOWWW my butt. hahahahah
The next day we went off to discover our new library system. I now have a Frederick County library card!
Megan very much approved of all the little reading nooks in the childrens area. Have I mentioned what a sweet girl I have? She is the best!
Kiernan very much approved of all the kid ready learning games.
After another trip to the house of "Craigslist Bob" David continued assembling the bed. Only to discover that in addition to all the screws that were now located and recovered, we were also missing 6 of 14 bed slats. Another trip this time to a central location got us 5 slats and a side trip to 84 lumber got us the right sized board. David sanded and drilled and voila' all slats ready-to-go.
Here is Day 3 of bed assembly.
The bed is now complete and really great. There is a reading area underneath and a cool star canopy above and Kiernan feels very proud to have a bunk bed in case anyone wants to come have a sleep over in his room.
Our main weekend project was the removal of the wagon wheel-esque divider from the ceiling between the
kitchen and the kids play room.
I am not sure why the ceiling is pink here but overall I like the continuity between rooms much more than the separation that existed with that divider.
We mowed again and did some more yard clean up. If you look at the top picture (Kiernan swinging under the deck) you can see that the tree branches were hanging quite low previously and in this picture you can see that I raided them up to about 6.5 feet (as high as I could reach with the loppers). There is more light now and I am not getting whacked in the face when I mow back there. There was more painting and some weeding and lots of goofy-ness.
Also last night we made really tasty pizzas. Here is Kiernan's cheese and mushroom happy pizza.
