4th of July 2013

Happy 4th of July!
We like this holiday so much we spread it over 2 days.
We did slip n' slide.

We went to the first ever and our first ever Mount Airy fireworks show (strangely held on the night of the 3rd). This was also Kiernan's first ever, old enough to stay up that late, fireworks show. It was packed! there were so many people that they ran out of food and drink and parking more than an hour before the show. There were only 6 Port'a Johns and the line didn't even die down during the firework display.
Despite being fairly easily put off by loud noises, Kiernan had a wonderful time. He narrated each explosion for us, often remarking upon the reactions of his many Zombie companions to boot. He was wired for two days after staying out so late but he was incredibly gratifyingly happy with the whole show.

The kids are all sick and I was really happy to put feverish Megan into the water. She was happy to oblige me.

Erena helped Kiernan with his goal of staying as wet as humanly possible.

On the 4th we did our "Yay we are out of Montgomery County and can now legally use fireworks" driveway  adventures.

Kiernan helpfully yelled "Run Daddy!" every time David lit anything.

I told Kiernan a brief story of the American Revolution. I told him about high tariffs and increasing taxes and a glut of natural resources (like trees) and a driving desire (like for tea) and then about common allies (like the French and Native Americans) and about mercenaries (Hessian) and about George Washington. It is strange to me how at the age of 4.5 he is familiar with so many pieces of this story already.
I wasn't sure if I was babbling his ear off or not but suddenly he volunteered that he would join the new American army to kick out the British and that he would bring a Gatling gun....hahahaha
