Megan is getting her Canine teeth (hopefully sooner rather than later) and has become a clingy fuss monster. She is still very sweet but we are rapidly approaching sleep deprived.
Erena is getting to know the finer points of American cuisine (dunkin doughnuts anyone?)
Kiernan is becoming a wound up social beast. He and Erena together equals mass hysteria.
The fountain in the midst of Chesterton is very pretty. I think I would like to go back there for a day trip.
Anyone for Chesterton?
Kiernan and Megan are either helping Nana pick blackberries and raspberries or inspecting her car for structural integrity. For 4th of July we made a cobbler using fresh from the yard blackberries and WOW it was so good. We made another with store bought blackberries to see how they stacked up.
I love store bought berries but they tasted flavorless (although they were admittedly less seedy) in comparison.
We got our first small load of sand and pea gravel for under the deck. I thought I'd found a good place to get a few tons of each for cheap but with time being so precious we just couldn't quite swing it. We are therefore getting 3-4 dollar 50 lb. bags at Lowes and doing it the slow way. I am hoping that soon the underdeck will be kinder (less shale underfoot) to the barefoot summer crew and also look nicer. I sort of wanted to go with all sand but the neighborhood cats would, I think, find that a mite too convenient.
Kathryn and I went to the Vans Warped Tour for our girls day out this week. We got matching sunburns and headaches. We also found a few bands that we liked very much that we had never heard of before.
The Warped tour skews young and I was a little worried about being there and feeling out of place but it was noisy and hot and fun as a summer music festival should be.
Our two favorite discoveries were:
and
Now, I am a fan of electronica so the techno/dub step vibe here is not surprising for my preference but Kathryn is really a very Metal girl so I was really pleased that she like these as well.
Then there was Tea.
From Left to Right (Carolyn, Kathryn, Missy, Licia and David)
For the last several visits...I'd say the last 10 years worth or so, Kathryn has been wanting to go to a "High Tea" and finally this time we did one. All the Scearce girls + David and me went to the Serenity Tea room in Frederick and had their High Tea.
I am a big tea drinker. Weirdly she hates tea but really wanted the experience.
David and I went to this place for our anniversary last year and they lived up to their occasion quite nicely. We threw them a bit of a monkey wrench by asking for one vegan tea but they came through with shining colors.
Everyone had a great time and I think it fulfilled Kathryn's dream of what a tea should be rather nicely.
I want to send an especially big thank you to mom here. She has been juggling the kids (all the kids!) with and without any help while we gallivant around the world to concerts and restaurants and fun times out.
In Mom News: She is healthy. Much of her shortness of breath etc. turns out to be allergy related and the Doctors have given her something that seems to be working quite well. Additionally she had to fast for her big cardiac tests and her blood sugar looked great even after the hard time the test and the fast gave her. Yay MOM!
This Friday Kathryn's dad (Grandpa Scearce) is have a cataract surgery so keep him in mind
