This week Nana put up her tent in the front yard and let the kids have fun camping. They had chairs and air mattresses and story books and snacks. I have mentioned before and it bears repeating here, we are so lucky to have the kids staying home with mom. Kiernan is working on math and reading flashcards and Megan is singing her ABC's and counting to 20.
We were disappointed to discover this week that Kiernan did not make it into Pre-K. There were too many high needs kids and the class filled up. They told us that they have a rolling admission so we may still hear from them sometime in the upcoming year.
But
Today would have been his first day of school and even though we downplayed it, he knew that there was a possibility that he might be able to start today. He was pretty disappointed too.
Ug
It is my first day of school too, this semester I am trying something new and doing a workplace learning program. I will cross-train with another department (QC) and get school credit for it, through evaluations and papers mostly.
In Project news we have about a third of the play area sanded and pea-graveled now. Plus the kids now have a fence to keep their area separate from the bike and trailer storage area. I need to paint it but I am glad we are making progress there. As you can see the slide is still attached to the picnic table. We still need to get the right kind of bolts and frame for it.
On Friday we went to Scearce's. We played int he creek with Grandpa and brought back the swings that we borrowed while Erena was here. I mowed the play area there last week so we were also able to play a little soccer and have some long-grass-free running space.
Its been a while since I put up a good picture of Kiernan in a suit. Here he is being Samson in most of a suit. We skipped going to church for quite a while and the transition back has been a fairly rough one. Megan is loving everything about it. She loves the kids and the noise and the music and the activities. Kiernan is having a much harder time. He has lost his ability to sit still and the interacting with other kids is very touch and go. There has been more than one genuine blow out in the last few weeks, during which he had to spend some time outside cooling off. I feel so bad for him. He needs to learn to behave properly and he is perfectly capable of sitting still for the 10-15 minutes required of him. One has only to observe his monk like stillness with an iphone to know he is capable. All we can do is keep trying. Each church visit has something to praise and it seems to be getting better overall but boy dose he need the practice.
On Sunday we were going to have some friends over for a cook out. This is the time for frantic cleaning and mopping and vacuuming and bleaching and most importantly shoe organizing. haha
I took this picture to remember what it looks like when we actually put most of the shoes away and have out only those last used.
Unfortunately our friends little boy (a few moths younger than Megan) had a teething fever and they didn't think it was wise to take him out. I know that feeling for sure.
So we had a just us cookout. Kiernan was so sad that the little boy wasn't coming. I had no idea he had been so looking forward to it. He was really shaken and nearly cried but he gathered himself up and got a hug and went down to play with his sister in a show of emotional maturity I also wasn't expecting.
Nana made these amazing fancy cookies from scratch and we had veggie burgers and chili lime roasted corn and Greek pasta salad and a clean house to show for it.
All's well that ends well and we hope to reschedule the cookout for later.
Megan and I went for a walk after our grand feast and a sweet neighbor lady gave us a bouquet of flowers. We were delighted!
Last but not least: the new Playstation! Our Xbox finally succumbed to its Red Ring of Death and David couldn't get it back up and running this time so we traded it in for a PS3.
Here he is playing Rocksmith.
Rocksmith is a game in which a real guitar or bass is used to match notes from popular pop and rock songs. It is a game that teaches you to play guitar.
My fingers are killing me.
lol
I am however closer than I ever have been to playing (I can't get) No Satisfaction.
