Back to the ER but first some weekend

On Friday the kids decided to clear the driveway. Hahaa
Megan gave up once she decided the handle of the shovel was too cold. Kiernan didn't give up until I took the shovel from him because he was tossing snow directly behind himself and making the path too slick.

We went to the Godard Space Flight Center Visitors center.

Megan has a surprising knowledge of the planets. I had no idea. She ran into the main exhibit room and shouted "Look mom, its Jupiter!" then later "Look! Its Saturn!" she was very excited...she was also right.

Kiernan was very happy to be an astronaut. He and Megan sat in a Gemini capsule. He said "Mom, which seat is for the pilot?" I said they were both good and one was for the co-pilot. He looked very suspicious about this. "Which one is better the pilot or the co-pilot?" I said it was probably the pilot. "Megan! You be the co-pilot!", he commanded.
hehe Those kids crack me up.

When we got home for Megan's nap, Kiernan has given up his naps over the last few weeks, Kiernan and I watched some Discovery series called When We Left Earth. Our Amazon Prime account really is worth so much when we can watch stuff like that, on demand and for free. Yay Amazon and Yay Space.
I love the optimism of the space age. I like it so much for the kids. I want them to read the Heinlein Juvenile series when they get older and I want them to tell me, as they do, that they will go to space when they grow up, and mean it. It was great to see that the Chinese Lunar lander touched down safely the same day, so that I was able to keep the whole thing current for the kids.

On Saturday David finished what the kids had 'started'. This poor man. What a driveway!
I had a funny text conversation with Grandma Mary this weekend in which she confided the mixed admiration and pity our yard and driveway inspires in her and in my father.

Megan has been telling me in the morning to come help her because she is stuck. She meant in the crib. So this weekend we took off one of the sides and gave her a little more freedom. This is much more complicated a process with Megan than it was with Kiernan. She is not going to just stay in her bed and in her room. She is not completely to be trusted with the plugs and books and lamp in her room. She wants to climb the curtains and get into everything. We are back and forth just now about locking her in for the time being or making the whole learning curve one big jump.
I have decided that the next project room is going to be Megan's. It is one of the smallest in the house and the transition time to a big girl bed and no changing area offers a good opportunity for redesign and paint.
more on that later.

We put Megan's ballerina snowflakes up above her bed. She likes them very much, and in fact, she ran so fast to show them off to us that when she consequently tripped and fell face first into her door frame I felt bad about hyping them to her.
Off to the local ER we went. Her nose was very swollen  but bleeding only a little.
Our original plan was to do Christmas tree shopping n Sunday afternoon. Instead it was X-Rays and helpfully provided coloring books.
She is OK. No breaks but a bit stuffy with all the blood up her nose.
She was incredibly good at the Dr.'s. I hadn't seen her taking directions from strangers before. When the radiologist told her to put her stomach on the wall and put her chin on the cross hairs she did. She was scared by the whole thing and started crying but kept her chin on that line. Poor Poor Megs. I decided I didn't care about the extra radiation and put my face right down by hers and talked to her and sang her a song and felt adoration for her bravery and sorrow for her trust.
I love my daughter.

In other news check out this park-able driveway.
