On Monday our driveway looked like this. We cleared the other half and waited for the sun to come and melt off that last little bit.
On Tuesday I went to get my first parts of my new clothes-that-fit wardrobe. I figured that since I am buying new (well ok thrift store new) clothes that I could do so in a purposeful manner, so I am following a 10 piece wardrobe suggestion piece from polyvore.
On Wednesday we got a BIG snow. This snow was almost a big as Kiernan and bigger than Meg's in some drifts. We got around 22 inches all told.
We could open our front door easily only because it opens inward. There is a stair somewhere under all that.
Megan treated the snow like beach sand. She would sit down and bury herself. Kiernan played like a wild man then got too cold and cried pitifully with snow down his neck and after a few minutes ran out doors to do it again...everything in moderation is completely lost on the 5 year old boy.
Mom and I went up the hill to check on the roads and she got caught in a drift created by the snow plow.
David more sensibly made cool snowmen. We all spent the day obsessively checking our phones for news of Kaleb's arrival.
On Thursday we had a sweet valentines day with candy and roses and pancakes.
The kids had been very excited about valentines day. It was abundantly clear that Kiernan knew what to expect (chocolate) and that Megan had no idea. Look at those faces. She is baffled though not displeased and he is excited and satisfied.
After a hearty breakfast of pancakes and chocolates, David and I headed up the hill to start digging out. Thursday turned out to be a relatively warm day but the melt off was insignificant compared to the overall mass of snow.

This is my view walking up the drive.

This is my view facing the cars from our court.
If given the option, marry someone handy and strong. We were both digging for several hours but were it not for Davids manly virtue I think we would still have only one car dug out.
That is my car.
Moms car.
Davids car.
I went down to the house to retrieve the kids so they could see the crazy snow and so they could break free and not subject mom to too much cabin fever induced hyperactivity. They were impressed. Kiernan climbed the big hills of snow that we had created and then cooled off by eating snow. Megan tried to get Nana to join her on a mountain climbing expedition.
David even dug out about the top 1/3rd of the drive but we just ran out of steam, plus we wanted to go see the new parents so we stopped there and headed down to Shady Grove.
In order to avoid quiet time in the visiting hours we made a few stops on the way.
1 to Buca di Beppo for valentines lunch. I love Buca and love eating out with David and the fact that my post wisdom tooth removal mouth rinse makes me taste things oddly did not diminish my fun. It was very strange eating Italian and only tasting garlic and basil though.
2 to Home Depot to pick up Megan's brown paint.
We saw and held a beautiful baby and congratulated the somewhat shell shocked new parents. They are going to be such great parents!
On Friday and Saturday we did hospital runs with doughnuts from Krispy Kreme thrown into the deal. Also we tackled the driveway with a vengeance. It was a good bit colder and the un-shovled portions were icing over. It was a process of dig slide to the edge to toss the snow and then slide back to the digging spot for more snow. Just about when we were ready to back it in, having gotten to the target tree, our very kind neighbor with a snow blower offered to help. So, David shoveled for another 2 and a half hours of back breaking heave-ho and I went in to record videos from the kids to Kaleb and to make dinner.
There was no way were were going to say no to the help of a snow blower but also no way we could in good conscience not stay out once it had arrived.
Thank you to Jason if you ever come across this blog.
This is a screen grab from one of the videos. Megan had a lot to say and was looking particularly photogenic, I must say.
Sunday was painting day.
We moved all of Megan's stuff to the middle of the room and transferred her bed to the library. Kiernan came to help with the final sanding.
Megan helped to redecorate her room by doing the first few strokes with daddy. Then off we went to introduce the kids to their new cousin.
Oh man were they impressed!
In the background you can see a very happy and sweet new mommy. Childbirth is not easy, and Aunt Pammy had it pretty hard even in that not easy pool. She went through a great deal to bring this boy into the world and she has been brave and strong and good through it all. Uncle Chris has been the platonic ideal of husband/father throughout. He has been a rock in some scary moments and a jester when a little levity went a long way. He has reminded me more of David than any other husband/father I have ever seen. That is the best compliment I have.
Congratulations to you both and congratulations to Kaleb on his excellent parenting luck.
By grownup bedtime the room was finished with 2 coats and trim tape removed. The brown looks great. Next week we will prime and paint all of her furniture white and maybe start the closet renovation. My nervous point in this project is that point at which we attempt to free hand or even trace the mural of a cherry tree with windblown blossoms floating down over her bed.
