first day of school my impressions

First of all let me say here that my husband is a prince among men.

I picked Kiernan up from school.
it was hot and I got stuck behind a truck so I was later than I wanted to be.

I had to go into the school. There are forms and signatures and protective guarded doors that I expect are part of all parents routines these days. I was a little baffled but everyone was friendly and I had my very happy boy by my side so I signed away without noticing much. Kiernan told me that school was awesome and handed me his backpack.
We walked out surrounded by other happy kids.

I fought hard to not grill him about his day and instead made casual observations and waited for him to fill in some gaps.
He met some friends and there were 7 people in the class. There will be 17 in total. He made some friends named Carmen and Matthew. A boy in a blue shirt but not Kiernan ran up the stairs when he wasn't supposed to. Kiernan has Panda Pride and walked very quietly in the hallway, but his teacher talked. He was too hot or tired to play at recess and he just sat there. In the morning they had a gathering before anything else. He ate all his lunch but didn't drink his juice and he was thirsty. He is Carmen's friend but she is not his friend.

Then we got home and mom asked him about his day and he said "Oh, you know."  and she said that "no" she "really didn't." but that was pretty much all he would say. We had some ice cream. Megan came down and there was a joyful rowdy reunion with much jumping on each other then some pool time.

He was yawning in the car and he was wired and just this side of naughty for a little more than an hour. Then he settled down and we had a very normal Minecraft and spaghetti evening. Special thanks to mom for keeping things smooth at home.
He slept in a bit this morning but after yesterdays 4:30 a.m. wake up that is hardly surprising.

This morning he was ready and raring to go back. Today there was no walking him up to his classroom. Today it was a 'normal' drop off.
David will pick him up.
I called David as soon as I was sure that the drop off had taken place. I grilled him for every little scrap of detail about the morning and I suspect that I will do that every morning for some time to come.
