First Day of School - David's impressions

Guest blogger David will now tell his tale.

So I had been worried when Kiernan crawled into our bed early this morning.  I know he has been somewhat anxious about the big change of starting school.  Having been very anxious myself when I started school, I feared it might be the same for him.  But, as usual, my son amazes me with his resilience and adaptability.  By the time he woke up he was raring to go!  Not that there isn't a lot of nervousness there, but he was focusing on the new adventure!  He mentioned pretty often that now he was going to go to work, like Mommy and Daddy.

I had been thinking about all the things I needed to tell him beforehand, to prepare him and make things easier if possible.  All that went away, though.  I didn't want to make him more anxious, and it would have been an overload of information.  I thought better to take my queues from him.  So we talked about a lot of things… what the day would be like, Megs missing him while he’s at school, crossing guards, who to get directions from, school buses, how long the day would be, recess, pick and drop off, Pandas, etc.  People at the school were very nice and helpful, and his teacher was there waiting at the classroom door.  I gave my boy a big hug, watched him hang up his backpack, stow his lunch box and join a small group of other kids at the front of the classroom.

Now I have to wait, and try to focus on work, all the while wishing the best first day of school anyone has ever had!

This is so sweet! It's making my allergies flare up a little, as my husband would say...
