Papa and Grandma Mary were in Florida. They were staying where we will be next year. Next year at this time come back for our Disney vacation post! Poor Grandma Mary tweaked her ankle on a nature hike. They had a rather horrible experience with Spirit Air. We will avoid all of that thanks to my fear of flying.
Aunt Lore is in California visiting Opa...and his amazing garden. We are hoping to see him soon but life keeps getting in the way.
Nana and Megan had a special girls day out on Thursday morning. While they did princess things and got doughnuts, we took Kiernan for his kindergarten evaluation.
I am still not sure what this was all about. I have talked to a lot of other parents at work and only one of them had an evaluation for her kindergartner but in that case it was for an early entry application.
My best guess is that we were part of a survey for Maryland's School Readiness Model. In practical terms it went like this: David and I spent about 20 min. around the corner from Kiernan and a teacher. Kiernan could not see us but we could hear him. I am very grateful for that accommodation. He started out a little clipped but soon got excited and even a little bombastic. He answered questions about numbers and letters he spelled his name he described pictures and he had a great time.
In the morning before we left he had been lethargic and reluctant to eat. As soon as we walked out of the school he told us he was starving and he ran around like a little whirlwind... that's my boy.
On Friday we went to the park. I was all excited because for once I had cash and we had time for Jimmie Cone. Unfortunately somewhere at this park, maybe even in this picture is my cash. I have a sinking feeling it is in the hands of one of those girls that Kiernan is swinging with.
This feeling probably comes from my resenting their rudeness to my kids as much as to the fact that they were the only other people there. Its weird how negative reactions bloom so easily.
We looked all over for the money but it was a no go.
We went home and cheered ourselves with industry.
First Kiernan and I replaced the flusher on the upstairs toilet while Megan played with her new Magic Clip Princess.
When Megan went down for her nap Kiernan helped me put together a bathroom shelf organizer. He was so happy to be doing "real grown up work". He handed me parts and kept the chart handy and even screwed in a few shelves himself. After it was done he tried to put everything on the shelves matching up our stuff with the picture on the box.
It was adorable!
He chattered away about the enticements of a well organized room.
If anyone has ever seen the living room after he and Megan had been playing in it they will know the hilarity of this lecture. Still it was a great time.
We worked on the garden a bit. We did some weeding and some butterfly watching.
I am so grateful to my dad for making this garden for us. Our neighbors come over sometimes to admire it.
In many ways it was an ideal weekend. It was quiet and the weather was good.
The kids were obedient and happy.
We had walks and snow cones.
We went to church and had no painful swing accidents.
Megan climbed trees.
Most exciting of all (for me) David started the ORB-ing project. I love the look of these converted handles. So many of the doorknobs and hinges in our house are scratched and mismatched. The ORB-ed knobs look so great. I will put up some pictures of them on the doors.
We also got some really nice cucumbers out of the garden.
I have been fighting anxiety all weekend. Its frustrating and of course scary. I wish medication had worked out for me or that I had found the right one. It went so poorly that I am very very reluctant to try it again but in those times when I feel like I might die at any moment I sure wish I could change things.
I hate the feeling of not being able to enjoy the good things in my life.
