The weather was pretty nice this week. It was not too hot; a very strange occurrence for August. We had several good park days. The one above brought to us by Megan's dental appointment.
No cavities!
On Friday Grandma and Grandpa Scearce came up to play with the kids. We took the opportunity to hit a local farm stand and grab some corn and peaches and tomatoes. The smaller box is of white peaches that I got from work and the larger box is of yellow peaches from the farm stand. We had a good time trying out both types in preparation for our stone fruit tree purchases next spring. The yellow peaches won but not by much.
On Saturday morning I woke early (thanks anxiety). I got 3 cool surprises to brighten my day.
I had a text from my sister-in-law asking me to check the front porch. In the night, on her way home from the airport and return from California, she had deposited a beautiful clump of sorrel from Opa.
I got busy and found a big pot and some heavy organic potting soil and put the sorrel in. I am very hopeful for this stuff. It had the biggest knottiest root I have ever seen on such a delicate herby plant.
The 2nd bright spot for my morning was a text from Grandma Mary letting me know that my cousin Wendy was delivered a of a beautiful baby boy. If I get permission I will put up some more info here.
The third bright spot was that one of my tomatoes was red, really red, pick-able red.
Not only that but the lemon/lime tree gave us a very sweet and fairly large fruit.
I got busy and kept busy for the day to tamp down the anxiety and David distracted the kids.
I made strawberry rhubarb pie and some bean soup.
Aunt Lore came over and shared lunch with us and told us about her trip.
I got a great picture from my sister of her family on their way to church while celebrating cousin Katie's 13th birthday.
Happy Birthday Katie!
Mom decided it was time to camp in the back yard. We set up the tent.
We sang happy birthday to Katie from the tent.
I was really amazed by Kiernan in this tent. Not only did he play in it all day he actually slept in it through the night.
I expected him back in by 9 pm but he didn't show until 6:20 the next morning.
On Sunday we had pancakes as usual and after a morning lounging about and playing video games David and I went into Frederick for a fun date while the kids napped.
We got bagels and walked though town. We went to antique shops and ate ice cream.
Good date.
When we got home, after talking of dreams and aspirations for the house on our way, David pulled some panels off the wall to see what was behind them. I am happy to report there was wall and not drywall behind them.
He put some paint on to test the color and it looked so interesting that he ended up painting a whole section of wall instead of just a swatch. The color is edgecomb gray. Sometimes it looks gray and sometimes sort of a sandy cream and sometimes blue. It is confusing and lively. We will see what it dose in the light of the hallway but I think we like it enough to do a great deal with it.
While he did that I took the kids outside to play while I worked on the mulch pile.
I worry that they don't self direct very well or that they want too much attention instead of being able to entertain themselves. I tried all of Sunday afternoon to do my thing and let them do theirs. After about 15 min of MOOOMMMM! come push my swing and MMMOOOOMMMMM tell me a story, some switch flipped and they played with each other quite nicely for a few hours.
David did a few more ORB project pieces this weekend. They still look amazing. I think this is a wonderful upgrade to the house.
After putting Megan to bed we cracked out the telescopes and waited for the Supermoon.
We had a bit of a moon party. There are 5 family on our court. 3 of us came out to have a good look. One neighbor brought out her fire ring and we brought out 2 telescopes and a spotting scope and a pirate spyglass. The boys ran around yelling and the adults tried to get camera phone pictures thorough the eyepieces.
David got this one.
We all hung about for nearly an hour of moon gazing and chatting.
