Happy 80th to Grandma

My hilarious daughter and I sent smooches from the MVA to Kiernan going off to school on Monday.

We entertained ourselves in the fields around the parking lot.

We got smooches back and so began our week.

We had good weather and productivity.

Kiernan's  school had a back to school night and we got to talk to his teacher and see the room his spends his time in. It went pretty well and I got a clearer definition of what on yellow means. It is less alarming than I thought. Its a warning state but there are 5 colors and yellow is the 2nd so not too bad.
By Friday school seemed pretty routine, if still tiring, and mommy and Megan time a happy return celebration.

We went to the park and planned and packed for our weekend trip.
Kiernan got out of school in an odd mood. He was tired and hyper and told me that he had been on yellow but had worked himself back to green. I am so pleased that he told me and that he turned a rough day around. Progress!
He also told me that someone had thrown-up in gym class.
That night he threw up.
Whoo-Hoo  school germs!
He had a fever and a sore throat. I wondered if we would make it to Grandma's birthday party after all.

On Saturday morning he seemed stuffy and basically OK. We drove for a few hours south and were rewarded by great traffic and a warm lake to splash in when we arrived.

We found a tiny baby turtle.
That is Kiernan's hand so that turtle is smaller than a quarter.

We put it back in the water further away from the swimming beach. Then we headed into the fray of rowdy family.
We were given color coded tee-shirts per generation.

Megan searched for her phenotypic matches. Identifying my sisters hair as a great source of admiration...blond and curly as it should be.

The kids were herded into photogenic lines.

The support crew plied their photo trade.

Discrete family groups gathered round.
Here is mine.

Eventually Grandma/Granmbo was surrounded by the whole crew.
Happy 80th Birthday Grandma!

We went back to the hotel and played in the pool and hung out for the rest of the day.

My poor sister had her car breakdown at this point.
That thing made it 12 hours up to the party then quit on them.

The next day after breakfast we all went to see the Korean War memorial that my cousins son Devon worked on for 2 years.
My Grandfather fought in that war. The memorial is placed on the 38th parallel north. My Grandfather was born in Kansas on the 38th. The dividing line between North and South Korea is also the 38th.

We broke up the group there.
We met up with mom back at the hotel.
Mom drove the several hours down to pick up my sister Jessica and her family so they wouldn't have to stay at a hotel while waiting for their car.

I am not happy that their car broke down but we are all so happy to see them.

Megan now has whatever  Kiernan had. She threw-up this morning.
The kids are both stuffy and feverish.
We are home.
