Kiernan has a presentation due in his class today.
He has been working on it nearly every night for the past few weeks. I love this idea. This is such a useful real world skill. It is something I admire about classical Greek education. I love the idea of training for rhetoric I want required to take a speach class until college. If he gets used to presenting his ideas in a clear and orderly fashion from the beginning, it could make his life much easier.
He is doing a sort of souped up show-and-tell. His topic is "a family holiday tradition".
He is presenting the Christmas Pickle.
I hope to have a good video of his performance here next week.
He made a poster and will bring a prop and some notes. Notes for a 5 year old are tricky. His literacy is pretty good but not good enough for normal presentation notes.
For the last week he has presented to the family to work out his delivery.
Good Stuff!
I finally took mom on her Christmas-present-from-last-year trip.
At least I got it in before this Christmas. Mom is down for pretty much anything and the Korean spa though completely novel demonstrated that nicely. We went to Spa world and were thrilled to discover an amazon local deal for it once we got there that cut our bill in half!
She had her first massage and her first bibimbap. Despite a torn rotator cuff she got the shiatsu massage (mostly on the other side) and enjoyed herself.
I got a lovely Christmas wreath. It smells wonderful. I bought it inside the store to pick up outside the store. Then drove home without it. Then fed and bathed the kids and put them to bed and drove back to Frederick to pick it up. /facepalm
Pax is getting bigger. She has basically learned to sit on command and is also basically house broken. In even better news she is sleeping through the night!!! Haleluja!
She is signed up for her obedience classes. I have been reading dog blogs and found this toy for smart puppies that need to be occupied. She is getting pretty good at it.
I have been playing Sega Genisis games with David and Kiernan. It is a flash back and it is fun.
We went on a hike/long dog walk this weekend. It was comically complex. Megan jumped through an ice crust on a very muddy puddle. Kiernan became King of the Doddlers to attack every tree and bush with a stick. Pax lost her walking on a leash composure and tried to do the salmon leap every time Megs got near...so of course Megan got near as much as she possibly could.
Megan had her first ics skating experience. She did so well. Her sense of balance is outstanding. She let go of my hand by the 2nd lap to do it herself. They played Let it Go from frozen in the rink and all the girls cheered and sang. It was pretty sweet.
I took Pax down for more puppy socializing at my dads house.
She got a good long walk and a fun puppy plus dog hang out.
We are gearing up for a visit from Japan. Look at this beautiful Erena!
We are scheduling skiing and spa visits and getting a few things to make them table once they get here.
We spent a while at Scearces doing some previsit prep. While there I rediscovered a set of study aids that Aunt Carolyn taped up to the wall back when we were in college. Oh the nostalgia!
Megan is working on her fashion choices. I love that girls sense of self. Being in the no-costume because its too cold winter timedays, is very rewarding.
Do you remember this post? Can you see that she still rests on her elbow?
Here is Kiernan from last night doing his final Christmas Pickle run through.
