The end of T-Ball and a few projects

The week started out with a bang. We went to Ian Scearce's graduation party at Cici's in Rockville. I keep meaning to take the kids to Cici's. It has pizza of many varieties suitable for children, not the least of which macaroni and cheese pizza.

On Tuesday we watched the penultimate T-Ball game.
It was getting hot and the days are long now so it was hot the whole time.
It was a great break from work though.
I did nearly a double shift on Monday and Tuesday was so busy that after the game I went back to work again.

Here I am looking grumpy by a robot at 9pm.

It got hotter still. The rest of the week passed by in a blur of too hot and too much work.
Then Friday finally arrived.
This is the penultimate week of school as well.

I was looking at pictures of Kiernan's first week of school and marveling at how much things have changed. Everything that seemed overwhelming is now old hat. I wonder how Kiernan will do home everyday.
We have already instilled a no all day minecraft marathons rule so at least I know he will be playing outside a bit.

Megan and I went to the hidden park.

We ran around and regretted out lack of shoes and discovered that Megan's legs get all scratched up in grass.
We found a turtle and offered it some of the blackberries that we were picking and eating as we walked.

The first of the cherry tomatoes have begun. They are the size of marbles and I am excited to see them. We are also now getting snap peas and I have seen a few tiny cucumbers on the vines.

On Saturday we had the last T-Ball game. Here is Kiernan manning 2nd.

Megan decided to coordinate her dress with her climbing.

Kiernan ran his last run. He got a trophy and shook hands with his coach.

The kids all did the after game "good game" high fives and that was it.

You can see here that the Yankees are much bigger than their opponents. 6 is the last year for T-Ball. Next year it will be Rookies- Machine Pitch.

After the game we drove straight up to Haggerstown to visit Aunt Lore for a lunch at Noodle Co and an introduction to her new kitten Nikita.

Once home again we put Megan down for a much needed nap. Both kids are congested and coughing and we would so love for these chest colds to not turn in to any kind of infection!

David took out an old rotting board from the deck and replaced it with a fresh and newly painted version.

We found another board that looks like it could use replacement as well and all last week he was watching YouTube videos on plumbing to work on some leaky pipes in the laundry room.
Good stuff!

While he worked on the deck I deconstructed the downstairs bathroom.

I am going to try to make our half bath look like this halfbath.

David sprayed the hinges with that great orb spray and I cleaned primed and painted the first coat on the vanity.

Aunt Judy came over for her last big visit before moving to Kansas to work on her postdoc.
We are so happy to have spent some time with her and wish her so much success where the buffalo roam.

On Sunday morning we took the kids to Scearce's and took the puppy to my Dads house.
We had been hoping to take Grandma Mary for some fun Korean Spa Mothers Day treats but events conspired against us and we wound up using the babysitting time for some chores and errands and a hypothetical date that was eaten up by the lawn mower.

We got a few more strawberries and some of the now ripe blueberries.

The kids had fun playing in the creek and with Grandma and Grandpa Scearce and they even got to run poor aunt Licia up and down the driveway and in and out of the creek.

Afterward Kiernan came with me to pick up Pax.
My dad gave us some delicious ice cream treats and we had a nice Blue-jay oriented conversation in the sun room watching the bird feeders.

Kiernan was interrupting and scattered more than I liked but it was still wonderful for me to see him talking with my Dad.

We don't see my dad and Mary as much as I wish. Mary is taking care of her mom, who has Alzheimer's disease. She has less than no time. Poor Mary  is always tired and often sick and she hates driving and we live an hour away.
Dad is busy with his school stuff and his hugger friends (this is my term for both new agers and 12 steppers) and his life. Like my mom, he is a real hippy. My parents didn't grow into the me generation of the 80's. They kept at their 'save the world' idealism and as a hospice nurse and a special ed teacher respectively I think they should be so proud of themselves.

They give of their time and their energy wholeheartedly.
Sometimes it has left me feeling selfish for resenting being prioritized against, especially in the case of my Dad, but as I look over all that they have done for the world I am always proud of them as human beings.

I want my kids to see people (and especially family members with whom they can identify) who do this sort of  thing, to see people who prioritize the needs of others.

I think it could help them to become better human beings.
