On Monday I was virtuous and finally took my car in for an oil change. I took the morning off work and went for a walk in Baker Park. It was beautiful and I loved it.
Megan indulged her inner princess with Nana and they created an Elsa cake.
Kiernan started the week like this.
He ended it 2 teeth lighter. I think the other top center tooth will be out quite soon as well.
It rained all week and the yard became a mushroom field. It was colder than average by about 20 degrees all week and I was miserable.
We got a few strawberries.
We got a ton of hosta growth.
Megan got a sty in her eye that of course turned into a painful infection.
Oh that poor girl!
She went to the Dr. with Nana and got a new eye oriented antibiotic and started her course on Thursday.
A moment here for me to point out how very lucky we are to have Nana. If it were not for her I would have had to take off of work at least 5 times in the last few weeks to take the kids to the Dr.s office. I would not have enough vacation time for our summer trip to Disney World and I would not be in good hue with my boss.
The expense of childcare and the many many emergencies that call for primary care providers make child rearing a shockingly expensive effort.
I have had a few co-workers and friends fall far behind because they don't have the kind of family back up that we do. It is a bad scene.
I wish that this country cared more about child rearing in general. I listen to my co-workers from Germany and feel like America (a country I love very much) is failing us here.
On Friday Meg's and I read some books and I felt her out for mood and health and stability. She seemed wired but OK so we went to Scearce's in the rain.
Megan and Pax jumped right in the Lilly pond.
Both Pax, for reasons of lack of outdoor exercise due to rain, and Megan, for reasons of illness, we poorly behaved. I felt sorry for Grandma and Grandpa. Pax and Meg's were hyper and jumpy and invasive and bitey (depending).
Ug.
On Saturday things were better.
Kiernan got to be the last at-bat. This is the grand slam position in which all the kids run around the bases non-stop.
Look at him go!
Look at him go!
We weather was great and the game was at Watkins park so Meg's had a new playground to work on and both kids got to climb a tree after.
We went home and had Goyoza and Ramen and watched the triple crown winning American Pharaoh.
Pax was impressed.
Aunt Lore came over and showed us her new car and took some of us for a ride into Frederick to pick up some Indian food for supper.
Sunday morning we had pancakes (of course).
We went into Frederick and explored Baker park as a family.
Check out this cool iron bridge.
The kids preformed in the band-shell.
We saw tiny ducklings and some spinny playground equipment.
Mom came to meet us and took the kids off to the mall for bouncy castles and books while David and I had our first date in ages.
MMMMMMmmmmm Thai food!
Back at home we started working on deck repairs and more Orbing.
