Helping others and a bit of gak

I did Habitat for Humanity volunteering on Friday.
I love that my work gives us each a day for community service.

We were building this house for that lady in the green.

Scientists make hilarious laborers. It's a different skill set but with an enthusiastic smart group there is a nice transformation by the end of the day.

Speaking of transformations!
These two are ready for Halloween.

Look at that beautiful new faucet. It is so nice and operable by a 3 (soon to be 4) year olds hands.
The bathroom has now been upgraded. With the new water saving toilet and the kid friendly faucet and the plumbing fixed we are very happy. Plus it looks so much better!
Three cheers for David!

This has been a fun project.

It feels like fall now.
We have some but not all of our pumpkins. Its time to scrape frost off the windows when leaving for work again. The kids have their first of the season runny noses and coughs.

The really notable thing we did this weekend was take the truck to the dump. We got rid of old and broken things like the dishwasher that David replaced and moms old minifridge. Happily most of the big stuff went to the recycling section so we didn't have to pay too much.

The kids had to stay in the truck. I cherish this image. It is the last time either of them was quite right for the rest of the weekend.
On the way home Kiernan started feeling 'tired'.

While he lay down and Megs had her nap I attacked the blackberry and raspberry patches. They attacked me back
I kept trying to take pictures that reflected how many thorns there were but no..

After the front beds Pax and I went out back and took out all the garden plants.

She valiantly guarded the last tomatoes.

Kiernan didn't stop resting and started to complain about his stomach.
He already had a bad congested cough (just like his snotball sister).
He spent the whole rest of the weekend not able to keep anything down. He got very dehydrated. He changed from pasty to yellowy and reflectively white. He had tiny blue rings under his eyes.
I am traumatized.
Megan got super clingy but other than that there was no change in her energy level.

It got so cold that the grass was white when I woke up Sunday morning.
This is what it looked like when Megan and I came home from grocery shopping...its blurry but it was very pretty and still. You can sort of see the white grass and the orangey trees.

Of course David and I got sick too. Hot tubs are great for both cold and congestion.
David and Megan and I went into that thing several times each for relief.
It was relieving.

Kiernan got an earache to go with his fun and went to bed. He finally wok up feeling wobbly but OK at 9 pm. Sunday night.

Megan is doing fine with no ear infection so far (touch wood).

In other news:

Today my father-in-law is getting a pacemaker put in. Please keep him in your thoughts or prayers.
