David had an ERCP on Monday. I was his designated driver so we spent the very hungry morning (hungry for him anyway) doing errands and hanging out. The errands included picking up dry cleaning and going to the MVA to get our licenses renewed.
Then we went to Guitar Center to distract him with happy things.
By this time we were exclusively talking about all the foods he would eat when it was over.
So we went to a cool Chinese bakery in Rockville to load up on treats for the post procedure celebratory meal.
To calm me down we went for a walk and revisited the scene of Davids most acrobatic crash.
He hit this post (while riding a bicycle) at great speed and rolled along that railing to land on his feet in an acrobats pose in the center of the bridge. His bike was so mangled that his machinist dad had to do some crazy MacGyver thing with the bridge spans to make it ride-able again.
David wishes everyone to know that there was a post in the center that has since been removed.
It was very pretty and peaceful. We don't usually get this much uninterrupted time together even for something like this. Normally he has tests like this one done early in the morning to avoid the all day hunger and low blood sugar headaches but they gave him a 3 pm appointment.
We saw a scurry of black squirrels.
When we finally got to Shady Grove we were both pleased to be there. It was supposed to be a 1 hour procedure.
We left at around 10 pm with David exhausted and in a great deal of pain.
No hunger bothered him now.
His Dr. decided to have a closer look at a number of things and to dilate with a balloon his Billiary tract and then to run a wire brush down there for good measure.
The wire brush cut him and took samples and the balloon gave him a great deal of "discomfort".
We are still waiting for the labs to come back.
What a bummer Crohn's is.
David wasn't' allowed to work the next day and spent it in bed drinking broth and napping.
By the evening we were up to watching Kiernan try out Pilates and sorting through the kids candy for needles.
Typically I don't take the needle scare thing very seriously but this year the reports of needles crept down for PA into MD and I decided better safe than sorry.
Lots of candy and 0 needles.
The leaves have begun their exit in earnest. As David was still feeling pretty wiped out I decided to grab the leaf blower myself on Friday and unearth the driveway.
We really couldn't see it at all and with the little rain showers we keep getting my wheels were spinning away going up it.
I was so pleased with myself for getting that leaf blower started!
Megan and I went out and found leaves of specific color to collect and photograph.
Then she jumped in the leaf pile for a bit.
It was very very warm. It was almost 80 degrees.
Our Key lime finally turned yellow and we picked and ate it with enthusiasm.
Kiernan's school had a family fitness night.
I have had a headache for the last week or two and David was needless to say not bouncy. We went anyway.
Kiernan was really looking forward to it. He had fun until he didn't. Sometime between the 2nd and 3rd session of 4 he just wilted.
We left before the 4th session and he just cried and cried all the way home.
Megan on the other hand can never be tired. She has decided that her future lies in Crossfit.
Ha.
On a cooling and rainy Saturday Kiernan's cub scout pack met up to distribute bags for food collection for our local food bank.
He was happy and said that it was good to be a hero and help people.
He did the left side and I did the right side of our first block and then we did the 2nd block together as his energy and warmth burned up. He wanted to talk about 'real word bad guys' and we spent a great deal of the walk talking about the KKK and about the death penalty.
It was heavy.
Once home we made chocolate chip cookies and played Minecraft.
Some sweet to go with our bitter for the day.
This weekend David put new bathroom fixtures into the master bathroom and the kids bathroom. Megan can now use all the sinks!
Ours looks amazing and pictures will follow.
We spent a lot of time cleaning. No big outings means you notice all the stuff being left undone or piling up.
I think the upstairs looks so much better and it is a bit of a relief to not feel like I am turning into a hoarder.
As you can see from the picture above we ironed the drapes.
In fact we ironed the drapes into curtains!
They were too long, which you can sort of see in the above picture, and were pooling on the floor.
We used some heat activated cloth tape to bring them up off of the floor.
Once they dried they looked very nice if i do say so myself.
Added bonus that was an item on my list of projects that had been sitting there for about 4+ months.
