Adventures with sun and fun

Erena and Megan are still getting on well.

This is a big relief as they are thrust together by age and circumstance so often.
Kiernan is torn between categorizing Erena as a duplicate Megan (=annoying) and strutting around manfully in-front of her (more than once shirtless!).

Overall he seems drawn to the opportunities she presents, such as this cool magna-doodle toy given to her by the airline.

Erena has been getting to spend some time with her "American Grandma". It is hard for her to communicate but there is always YouTube and snacks to grease the wheels.

We managed to flush out the Yellow Jackets from the wheel barrow with a hose and a 20 minute timer.

We've been delving deep into american culture with visits to diners and Walmart and even a hair cutting pre-school venture to Great Clips.

Kiernan had to be bribed to agree to my version of what his head should look like.
Megan just wanted her bangs out of her eyes.

In the end they were all quite pleased with their new hair do's.

Kiernan picked up the new and deeply appreciated new skill of blowing bubbles with his gum.

Its been super hot so we decided to take a good cooling trip to the ice skating rink.

For some there was more trip.

It was amazing to see how Megan's ice skating lessons have paid off. She was very steady on her feet and left us in the dust a number of times.

Then the dip-n-dots

and the California Tortilla run.

It was Aunt Lore's birthday and she spent it in CA with Opa. We got some good pics of beautiful Northern California beaches but I have to say this one was my favorite.
He may be headed out this way in October for his birthday and Megan's.
It would be so great to see him!

On Friday we met our friend Mindy and her boys at Baker park for a brunch picnic.
We ate snacks and chased ducks.

Saturday was painfully hot.
Despite the heat I agreed to take the kids over to Watkins park to feel out the weather with an eye toward the overnight camping event the town threw.
There were musicians with kid friendly instruments laying around.

We therefore attended a hoedown.
Then stayed for the nearly insufferable hot evening.
We watched Big Hero 6.
We pitched the tent in the dark.
Erena beat a wise and hasty retreat but the kids and I persevered on.

This camping trip assures that Kiernan will get a scouting pin for the summertime pack award.

Next morning we packed up after grabbing a few treats.
We dropped of Megs and grabbed towels and water shoes.

Then Kathryn and Erena and Kiernan and I drove off to Harpers Ferry to join co-workers for some inner tubing.

It was a beautiful day on the river and most of us came out with scratched and bug bitten and sunburned and relaxed.

Martin even joined us.
Hi Martin.
