9/11 and settling back down

We had rain and rainbows.

We had rainbow crystal rocks for science.

Kiernan got an academic achievement medal for doing so much math and reading over the summer.

I saw a big fat winter ready beaver on my Friday work walk.

Kiernan made a hat for his school's celebratory (97% attendance in the month of August) hat day.
He was one of only a very few to make a hat.
It was a fabulous diamond helmet from minecraft.

Its starting to get cooler so the dog walks are getting more fun.

We have some crazy mushrooms on the mulch pile instead of hornets.

For Patriots Day (9/11) Kiernan's Cub Scout Pack helped with the Mount Airy commemoration ceremony.

Mount Airy is a sattelight of a lot of federal stuff as you would expect from its position in the state. There were two men from our town that died on 9/11 and most of the ceremony was about them and about their families.

It was sad. It was more sad than I had expected it to be as we are 15 years on now.
Read this article for an idea of what went on.

After the ceremony the boys helped clean up the casings and clean up.

We did some more hikes with the dog. This time letting her off the leash. She is now coming when called or freezing in place depending so we are letting her run a bit back on the trail. There are so few people and she seems so happy that the risk of her running off seems worth it.

I had to go to work on Saturday but we took some time out for some real live slime science.

I took David out to the Renaissance fair for an anniversary date. We are 14 years this year.
Its good stuff all round.
