This week started out weirdly warm (in the 80's) and we had some good walks in the evenings.
It was a week we had been waiting for for a very long time.
First of all Kiernan got his awards from summer camp.
He earned shooting awards and a science award and even earned a belt loop (the Cub Scout equivalent of a badge).
He was embarrassed to stand in front of everyone but pleased to have something no one else in his group had earned.
It was the Cub Scout Halloween party. Last year this was a mixed bag affair.
Kiernan liked it but was also quite overwhelmed by it.
This year although he asked to go home once things got loud he rallied his energies and stuck it out making the best of it.
He even enjoyed himself when he was able to block out the shouting and chaos.
Megan did not need to block out the chaos. Megan as always fomented the chaos.
Alex and Kiernan were adorable together.
I have decided that Alex has the energy of Megan and the sweetness of Kiernan.
I like that kid a lot.
You may be receiving a call from Kiernan trying to convince you to buy things.
Here are the things.
This week FINALLY Kiernan got his specialist appointment.
We took the morning off for it.
As expected there were a number of tests.
We learned that Kiernan is usually experiencing about a 4 on the pain chart but that it goes up to about a 9 when he feels 'bad'.
That was distressing.
He was hyper with nerves and silliness at the beginning of the appointment.
By the end (after the finger up the butt part) he was super subdued.
He has a few X-rays coming up and a change in medication.
We have a follow up in about 3 months.
I knew that he wouldn't be super happy after all that so I had his bike in the trunk of Davids car and we took him out for a Mommy and Daddy and Kiernan adventure. He biked about 2 miles...a major step up from his circles of the basketball court.
He had a great time.
That evening with the enthusiastic help of Megan we started doing hte house up for Halloween.
Megan got quite creative with trussed up mermaids and My Little Pony devouring giant spiders.
Plus there were some jack-o'lantern carvings to be had.
The cleaning out of the house has progressed to the point where I feel good about decorating.
So David and I have started after lo these many years to get and put up some art and some neat things that make us happy.
The kids love this double sided sequin art.
I love it too. That is why I bought it.
I love it so much I will be making at least 3 more.
I also ordered a few pillows that do this just so we can all mess with it without bothering each other.
Here are the kids in the dark.
Here they are in the light in the same spots.
They wish for you to see their pumpkins.
On Saturday we went to Ikea and to Scearces and stopped by dad and Marys house to give poor sick birthday girl grandma Mary some soup.
It was a busy day out and daddy finally got some grown up time.
On Sunday Megan had a birthday party to attend.
It was at a stable.
We dressed as our own versions of cowgirls.
I had turquoises and boots and she had all sorts of things and boots.
Kiernan thought we were nuts.
We went to the stables.
I used to ride as often as I possibly could.
If I were rich I would ride a lot even now.
I love the smell of horses.
Megan rode around and around until the hours were over and thought long and hard about how she might also ride as much as possible.
I hope she figures it out.
Here is the house as it now stands in pre-Halloween anticip-
