Happy Mothers Day and bravery

On the week of Mothers Day it got so cold we had a freeze warning. I had to cover up my plants with blankets!

It looked beautiful and spring like and then suddenly it was two days later. This weather is crazy!

Things are shaking up in the lab just now. Qiagen aquired 2 diferent companies pretty much at once and some of their work will be headed our way. Here is a dude from one of the companies (his name is Chase and he is great). There has been a great deal of travel and of cross training. Its very exciting.

Part of the change has us moving into the labs and giving up our bigger cubes for smaller ones with giant windows. Great trade! Now I can have natural light and plants and it is wonderful.

We took Chase around to convince him that Maryland is a good place to move to.

Maryland was very cooperative and startlingly green to someone coming from the desert of Carlsbad.

I got a great cup from Kiernans art class just in time for Mothers Day

Kiernan's stomach has been bad again. I called the pediatric gastroenterologist for another appointment. They have nothing until September...
September
I am angry about the amount of care available to my boy right now.

David replaced the trampoline top and got some new springs and a spring cover and even a new ladder (so we can get the painting ladder back).
The backyard is now in its summertime transition and the trampoline feels springy.

I am building a fort at work with mermaid pillows and blankets and a futon.

For the weekend of Mothers Day we had chill and rain and I planned a few fun things. With the help of Groupon we went to the Mid-Maryland Celtic Festival.
David very gallantly wore a kilt.
He looks great in a kilt!

I wore about 3 layers and a hat and really enjoyed myself.
I was worried that the timing of the Celtic Festival would be all wrong because of my flight to Denmark the next day and my general anxiety about the same.
It turned out to be distracting and happy and perfect.

There were lots of kids activities.

Megan got a butterfly on her face.

Kiernan got kilt socks and Caber Tossing lessons.

He was so cute throwing that thing around.

For Mothers Day we got mom a smart plug so that she can now tell Alexa (her Amazon Echo) to turn out the lights for her.
While at the festival I also got her a Guinness tasting ticket.
She was right by the loud Celtic Rock tent and taught with her group by a sweary Irish girl all about Guinness. She had a great time.

We stayed for a few minutes and watched some keg throwing. Then we went home and warmed up and started packing.
I packed everything and laid out my clothes for my flight and tried very hard not to think about flying.

The next morning we went for a family walk.

We even took the dog.

David got me a very sweet card and some beautiful roses.
While I was gone he also replaced my radio and got me a great art piece from my wish list and hung it in the office.
He took a very subdued me to the airport and talked to me while I took my Ativan and helped me check in my bag and kissed me good bye as I headed off to the TSA.
He stayed waving by the escalator until I rounded the bend.
All of those things meant so much to a barely responsive not quite catatonic me.
I love him.
