Happy 15th Anniversary to us

We got back to routine this week. We had a few major successes. David finished his project guitar. It is sculpted and stained and rewired and sounds great.

I decided to try a cheap but cute decorating project. I got a few bags of fake butterflies for the hallway to the kids rooms.

I drew a line on the wall and covered all the magnets (these things were 6 bucks on amazon).

Then I put them all over the wall. I was trying for a real flight pattern so there is a bit of up and down and the last one looks a bit as if it were landing on Megan's door frame. You can still see my eraser marks in this shot but that is the current arrangement of flight.
I like it.

We went inner tubing in our 2nd annual Qiagen Service team inner tubing run. It was loads of fun. This year Megan was big enough to join us and so even David was able to join us.

Afterward we went to a fun near-by cafe called beans in the belfry.
Its in an old church and is beautiful.

The food was good too.

Speaking of good food...our boss got a Krispy Kreme craving so we got a few dozen doughnuts.

Our group has gone from 4 or 5 of us at this time last year to 15.
Its a lot more doughnuts.
Its strange to grow so quickly but the people have been really great so far therefore allons y.

Kiernan went to his first shrink visit. It went well enough but its too early to tell if it will be helpful. I think the beginning of school is getting him but my friend Michelle said that she was about his age when her anxiety really started kicking her around so maybe its just his time.

I am glad he has no social hang ups about any of this.
I told him that a shrink was a Dr. for the mind and that they helped with things like anxiety and depression and addiction and stuff like that. He said "Can we go today?".
ha!
I love that boy.

We've instilled a few new routines to help. More walks for one, but also no screen time withing 2 hours of bed time. A later bedtime for him because he has been having a hard time going to sleep.

We went to the teacher meet and greet at school.

We found both kids supplies and cubbies and met the teachers.
Megan is mega ready to start school. I think she may be underestimating how long full day is but she is so happy to be back with her friends.

David and I had our 15th anniversary.
It was on a busy day with Dr.s visits and teacher meet and greets and lots of work deadlines so we didn't do anything much. At the end of the day we took goofy pictures and laid around in bed watching TrainSpotting 2 and chilling out.

I did another 5K on Saturday morning. It was pouring rain. It was cold. Licia and Donnie (new guy from work) ran it too. They were much faster but so kindly both were there at the finish and they cheered me on kindly.
It was a really fun race and work paid for it and there was live music. Also I got terrific doughnuts and bagels afterward.

On Sunday we gave each other roses and ate apricots with goat creme freche and pecans and then we went mowing.

David got to drive the tractor.
I dig a due on a tractor.
I did the push mower.

Pax ran back and forth between us.
We need to go back to do more but we got a fair bit done. If you are young and bale bodied and local I may be hitting you up in the near future to help mow and chop wood and winterize. Mr. Scearce had a fall a few weeks ago and isn't recovering the way we would all like.
I am concerned.
They hardly have any wood chopped for the winter and its looking to get cold shortly.

David fell through the garage ceiling.
Apparently it was a graceful fall with an element of control to it (he caught hold of a rafter on the way down).
Oh dear.

Monday was a holiday and we celebrated our anniversary.
Its my year to design the celebration so it was all food and the great outdoors (poor David).
The good news is that they doubled his blood pressure medication and that is working well so we ate with out restriction for a day.
Here is how I imagine David would describe the day.

My wife took me kayaking and we were chased by a copperhead.

Then I got a sun burn.
Then I had to stand in line forever at a vegetarian taco place ... it was good though.

Then she took me on a million hour slog to the National Arboretum.

It was cool.

There were practically no bathrooms open though and we walked for ever.

End hypothetical David report.

That evening we made an end of summer fire and roasted veggie dogs and marshmallows.

Megan sang to us.

The fire burned down and we went to bed.

The first day of school dawned this morning and I did my best June Cleaver.
Next week: How the school year began.
