Scouting for food time came and went. Kiernan was in no mood whatsoever to get out of the house on a cold morning.
He stood around for instructions with a do-I-have-to face on.
When we got out to our assigned neighborhood and started filling up the trunk he got interested.
As we drove around the neighborhood talking about what the food was for (Mount Airy Net) he got excited.
By the time we got to the car for drop off he was so into it we went out again for another neighborhood on his request.
We watched the food pile up and helped the scouts sort. Another Pack came in and added tremendously to the pile. We each brought in around a ton of foods.
This is my favorite Cub Scout activity.
We did the yard-work of fall. We cleared off all the Halloween spiderwebs and did the fall pruning.
I did the indoor winter prep for the indoor plants.
David did the first leaf blow of the season.
I moved the tomato and pepper plants to the corner of the deck to sit until next spring.
Kiernan got his first crack at the leaf blower and cleared off the deck.
It was noisy and scary at first but then he felt like an all powerful wind elemental and chased the leaves away.
we cleaned the house and the yards in such good time we had time for music with the kids and a date
David took me to Glory Doughnuts (a vegan place in Frederick) and I got the most amazing veggie burger I have ever had See their Instagram below
The kids have been feeling comfortable and happy. They have been playing well together and Kiernans stomach is bothering him less.
They have the occasional spontaneous dance parties.
I am trying to get out and walk the dog more. Its beautiful and quiet and goes well with my works annual Fitbit challenge.
Megan had a Girl Scout activity at a martial arts place in town. She loved it very much. Martial arts were such a big part of my upbringing and I really want the kids to get into them. I wasn't crazy about this school (it reminded me a bit too much of the Cobra Kai) and am hoping to lure her away from it with other places. We will be trying another one next week. Wish us luck.
I skipped a day of work to Chaperone Kiernans science field trip.
I really liked the ESSL. The exhibits were thoughtful and hands on and well done.
I was disappointed (as were the kids) that we didn't see what we were expecting to. The kids have been studying forces and we were expecting Newton but got biology...lots of cool sea creatures. I was in charge of the horseshoe crabs with another mom who wasn't afraid to touch things.
Also the dude in the Carl Sagan turtleneck and jacket was extreeeeeemmmmly pedantic. He couldn't let the movie at the planetarium roll for more than 1.5 minutes without stopping it to explain something.
Also last year it was a full day field trip and this year it was only half day.
I loved the horseshoe crabs. I loved the staff minus that one dude.
At the school we were given groups of kids per parent and I was happy to be spending the day with Kiernan but when we got to the ESSL the guy took us away from the kids and gave us stations to man. I liked my station but Kiernan was barely there. I wish that I had been able to see him. Once he got to me he was not thrilled by my awesome sea charges.
When we got back to the school I went over to Megan's classroom and sat with her through her math class. By then I had a headache from too many people but it was so good to sit on the floor with her and watch her strut her mental stuff.
A group from work (of excellent kind people) joined us at Scearces for some serious wood chopping. If we do that one more time I think there will be enough wood.
I found a design for a wood shed made of pallets so we also brought 20-30 pallets from a place I found near home that let me take a ton for free.
In David can do everything news: David fixed the trucks tailgate so that it now opens and closes as it should plus he will be building with some help from Geoff and Martin I hope, a wood shed out of pallets.
The next day we did a local farm tour thing.
We went to Caprikorn Farms to meet Kelseys best friends work goats. They were pretty sweet. We got some delicious goat cheese.
Then we went to a Ciderworks and distillery. While there I found my decades long dream apples. They had Bramleys.
I have been looking so hard for Bramleys that I gave up and just bought a Bramley tree. The tree is still 2 years from fruiting.
I am so happy.
Bramley apples are huge and mega tart and wonderful cooking apples.
David had hard cider and apple wine.
I cherished my Bramley and went home and immediately made two crumbles.
Sooo yummy.
I was hoping to make more for Thanksgiving but they were only open on the weekends.
We ate both crumbles within 24hours.
Megans hair is long and partially pink. I am braiding it more and more to keep it out of her face.
We lucked out and scored this outstanding work table from my work before they gave it to the scrap metal guy.
My wonderful workmates got it onto the truck and I took it home to David like a robin with a new ribbon for the nest. I was so proud.
Grandpa Rumford had a birthday.
Happy Birthday Grandpa!
I did another 5K. This one was the first annual Mount Airy Turkey Trot. It was on a golf course. There was no way I could run some of those hills. I ran with a camelback on and drank the whole way. I got no headache. I ran so slowly!
So many hills.
I had energy therefore to make lots of Thanksgiving food.
We had 15 people over this year. We managed to have more than enough food and convivial company and some football and the dog was good.
I got the Friday after thanksgiving off!
Kiernan has a big medical test coming up this tomorrow.
He has been taking 4x the adult dose of miralx for 4 days now.
Today was clear liquid day. I am doing it with him. We are pretty hungry.
At 4 AM tomorrow we will leave for Children's Hospital and hopefully be done with all the tests.
Wish us luck!
Christmas is on its way. Our lights are up and I am working on Christmas cards.
So far so good
