Goodbye 2017 Hello 2018

As you know by now I have kind co-workers. This is Mirellie or her hair anyway. A bit before Christmas Megan found a complex hair style that she wanted and so I spent a great deal of time with a fake head learning various braids. At work when things weren’t too crazy Mirellie let me try things on her head too.
That is supposed to be a lighted Christmas tree but is in fact just a lighted braid.

I did something super bold and went with another kind co-worker to a gaming/nerd place.
I was social for the sake of curiosity and music. Well I went because I wanted to see it and I went back because music.
Somewhere hidden in Frederick not too far from the boats bellow there is a secret club called The Historical Haven. Geoff is a member of the club and took me to see if because A) he is kind and B) he knows I love many things they also love (renaissance fairs and cartoons for instance).
While there I found out that they were working on building some Trossinger Lyres and immediately I wanted to join.
They told me that I needed to come for a face to face interview consisting of a boardgame night and after many deep breaths and no small amount of trepidation and social anxiety I agreed to do so.

Back on the home front we did some serious Christmas-ing.

We even did some Hanukkah-ing.

Some Christmas cards even managed to make it out the door. This is the part where I discovered how many strange holes were in my address book.

My braiding improved.

I had my birthday.

Kiernan dazzled me so much on my birthday. It was a very busy day at work (too near end of quarter) and then it was girl scout night and then it was cub scout night. It was the cub scout night of pie in the face. Kiernan spared me in deference to my birthday although he wasn’t sure that he would at the beginning of the evening.
He brought in the colors for opening ceremony and the mic was dead so he had to do it rather loudly.
He was calm cool and collected and i thought back to 2 and 3 years ago when he couldn’t even be in the room with that many boys making so much noise without bursting into tears and needing to leave.
It was an amazing and hard fought transformation and I was very proud of him and very grateful to Pack 1191.

Megan did her Christmas presentation at school. It was a comedy of too late prep and too many broken printers and too much indecision. It was a mess but we pulled everything together with some trips to the printer and emergency Walmart runs.
She was so proud of doing it and I am glad we got it all together. With Kiernans we practised for a month and had a complete poster for him a week early. Classic 2nd child stuff hitting Megan. I always thought that was a case of parental inattention but now I see that it is also just plain old parental overburden.
Oh man

We have been working on math in some fun ways in the evenings.

Megan had fancy not very Christmas tree hair for her party. She loved the lights and the star and wore it until bedtime. The battery never gave out. I want to get it right but am not sure if she cares anymore.

I invented cherry cheese empanadas...

We went to see cousin Kaleb for Christmas
There was some serious fort building.

Not to put too fine a point on it because I will be doing a septate update for that but Megan is now selling Girl Scout cookies!!!!!

I made a Christmas mince pie.

We got some presents under the tree.

We got some Christmas eve family meal time with Aunt Lore. Then we did presents (German style the day before Christmas).

I got some cool cookbooks to help me remember Denmark and the good things I took away from it.

On Christmas morning we did stockings and poppers

That morning we were expecting company and were getting ready to make a big brunch when the oven caught fire. It was the heating element insulation.

So we cooked on the grill and in the microwave and with mom’s convection oven.
It was very cold so I changed out of my fancy dress and into 3 sweaters and snow boots to cool.

My boss, bless him a thousand times, let us work from home on the week between Christmas and New Years. So we had for the first time ever a family winter break. David even took a day off for it.
We went to Vuk to play pinball and eat pizza.

We also went ice skating twice.

We had a visit from Aunt Carolyn and Aunt Licia with Issac in tow. Epic Nerf battles were had.

My body decided that since I wasn’t super busy anymore that it would be a great time to finally get sick.
Sick I got. I am still sick.

Kiernan went to his very first DnD game.
proud mom moments keep rolling this winter.

David started working on my dads bass. It may be a lost cause.

I drank a great deal of tea.

I got my best nine of instagram for New Years.

What a year it has been. There was Disney and Denmark and running and family and work craziness. It has been one of the most eventful and positive years of my life.
It was sub zero on New Years Eve so we did one sparkler and ran back inside. Kiernan was a little bitter in his disappointment but I was far too cold and sick to mind.

David got a mead brewing kit in his stocking so we had some fun and made some mead.
I went on my board game interview and was introduced to an excellent game called Splendor.

Then Christmas was over and we threw out the tree and on 12th night took down the decorations and bottled the mead.
David fixed my car heater and repaired the oven.
He really is extremely handy..

The kids started to get stir crazy so I put them on a yoga kick.

I also signed them up for gymnastics but that doesn’t start yet.

It is still crazy cold but now that my car has heat I care less.

My final Christmas presents arrived. I got this amazing and beautiful Tea Brick (it really is a brick made of tea) and a heavy gravity blanket.
