Early May

We took Kiernan to our favorite Thai place. He loves Indian food and Chinese food and is generally hungry (nearly constantly hungry). We love Thai food so we figured it was worth a shot.
We presented it to him like a video game. He went in a level 0 at Thai food and however many new foods he tried he would leave that level. He left a level 4 and loved the yellow curry that I love and it was a pleasure to have him there. Megan was having none of our adventure and stayed with Nana for a civilized trip to Walmart. lol
She will grow into Thai food I am sure.

While we were in Frederick we got to see some small corners of the art day that was going on

Here is a picture of the bog dress that I am trying to make. I took over the kitchen table with sewing machine and fabric and learned to do a double rolled hem.

It was not very straight but it was quite strong and as the fabric is the easily frayed linen I am quite pleased with the strong part.

So far I have finished  one short side of one panel with the double rolled hem.

I got into a coking mood and did some experimental stuff with the new beyond meat sausage stuff.
I like it a lot better than the burger as it dose not smell like cat food when you cook it.

I started out with the pepper and onion sausage dish that David likes.

We got Mary back for her week 2 visit. The theme of this week was nature.

We went with mom to Sugarloaf Mountain.
Mary had only been once before many years ago and hated it. She said that it was crawling with ticks.
I go there many many times a year and have never had that experience so I wanted to try it out on her again and she was kindly willing to give it a go.
Good news: No Ticks!
Also it was a nice cool overcast day and good for hiking.

We got some very sad news. We learned that Davids Step-mother Evelyn had lost her fight with cancer.

David flew out to California to be with his dad. It was not entirely unexpected but it was not easy.
Cancer Sucks. I can't imagine losing not one but two spouses to it. Please pray for him.
We hope that Davids dad will come out here (to live near us) but he has a life and beautiful garden out there and moving is very hard. On the other hand he has family out here and I would love him to know his grandchildren.

Mary and mom and I continued on. I m very glad to have had all the help with David in California.
We went to have lunch with some of my excellent co workers and a tasty Vietnamese place in Frederick.

Mary and I took Megan on a hike while the hike averse Kiernan stayed home with Nana.
We went to Monocaccy Aqueduct.

Megan was feeling glamours.

I love this picture of us.

I also love this picture of Meg's .

I decided to make a southern style meal.

Veggie fried Chicken and cornbread to go with it all.

The kids were super good. We talked to David on the phone every night and they missed him.

I finally made the cheesecake that I owed Martin from a bet ages ago.
It turned out really well and I am going to make another one soon.
Its a very long recipe and I am grateful to have had the time to do it in the middle of a weekday when nothing else was going on.
So tasty though. We had some at D&D.

I tried the beyond sausage in a one skillet pasta dish. It was fairly nice and the sauce I made for it was so good that I used it spaghetti dinner two days later.

The purple flowers began to bloom. I was aslo happy to see the persimmon tree is still alive as well. The way the stupid Japanese beetles got at it last year I was afraid it would be a goner.

We got some very heartening videos and pictures from California.
These guys!
I love them both.

It was warm enough that I got some time in the hammock relaxing.
It helped a lot that I knew I had a job upcoming. That really helped me relax over all. It dumb that in order to really relax completely I had to know my period of relaxation was coming to an end.

I took morning walks and talked to David on the phone after dropping the kids off at school.
I began to feel very myself. I told David that I felt more myself than I have in a very long time.
I am very lucky.

This is the Mount Airy rails to trails path.

Its been very wet and there are cool mushrooms all over.

Watkins park at the bottom of rails to trails got some cool new workout stuff.
They seemed surprisingly various, lots of balance and isotonic things.

The weeds went up too. We are trying some of those many amazon boxes as week blockers.

We did something strange and cool and took the kids to sandy point after school.

The water was freezing but the kids were not to be stopped.

It was relaxing and beautiful.

I had a hardcore gardening day in which I finished cleaning about 3/4 of the blackberry and raspberry bed. I took out the chainsaw and took down lots of overgrown saplings and hauled things around. I planted some lilac bushes and some flowers and cleared out some brush.

I walked more and enjoyed more and assumed an attitude of pleased anticipation about the return of David.

We did some Mothers Day shopping and Mary got me a few beautiful plants at Costco.

I had a great place picked out for this Gardenia but need to call Miss Utility to find out where the lines are buried.

We went on a rainy hike at Cunningham Falls.

All the rain has the falls up.

We took the obligatory nature selfie.

We walked down to the lake as well.

I am planning to meet up with some of my Qia-group for a picnic and a swim when it gets warmer.

I made this picture into my desktop background.

Look at all this water!

Mary and I took Megan and Pax for a big long walk to the hidden park.

The dog got muddy and Megs got to climb so over all it was a success.

Then we took Megan to ice cream.

In further hiking news.

After a hearty diner breakfast.

The kids and mom got to see the abandoned town (Daniels MD).

Its quite a long hike.

It was beautiful.

They were a little bored so I made an adventure story for them in which they were going into the ghostlands to battle an evil bad guy boss.
They loved that.

I loved this car with the tree through it.

We made a fabulous Cuban sandwich

and mojito supper.

Davids flight was supposed to be in for this meal but it got delayed for an entire day.

He got a red-eye and i took him to a bagel the next morning.
He was home in time for mothers day.

He got me a cool quiver for my archery!
I got to spend Mothers Day with all my family including my mother and step-mother and that was great.

I started my new job the next morning.
I was so proud to be hired. I listened to the orientation speech and drank the kool-aid of saving the world through cancer research.
I made it on time despite not having been there before and the fact that it was raining.
There were new people and a ton more paperwork and some safety training. It was a full day and the first day of my first pay period.
I went home tired and proud.
David fed me and put me in the hot tub to unwind.
Then mom came down white as a sheet and gasping. She was on the phone with my sister Jessica.
Jessica was telling her that Shawn my sweet nephew and her first born and only son had killed himself.
Our hearts are broken.
