June 2023

After we got back from Spain I took the rest of the week off work to recover from jet lag and get settled back in.

Settling back in meant trying to get the last bit of my great Family von Viking props together for bardic and testing out how recovered my feet really were with a little Zombies run 5k trainer.

Zombies run is a sort of game you play while you are running. It tells you a story while you run. In this story you are a post zombie apocalypse runner. Occasionally zombies chase you. While you are running in real life the game tells you that good things are happening (maybe you save a child from zombies) or bad things are happening (most frequently this means zombies are chasing you and you must go faster) this is an interval work out.
I’m in no shape for running so right now it’s just lots of walking an a little jogging and listening to a zombie game.

I took the kids to the pool and printed out another horse skull.
We as a family practiced our “Viking song” for bardic.
Then it was the weekend and time to give it a go.
This time bardic was not at Haven but at a meadery
The kids and David were super cooperative here. They dressed up and the kids let me put braids in their hair and they got up in front of people. David played my lyre, Kiernan played the drum, with the new sticks I made, and sang, Megan and I sang.

I enjoyed that a ton.
David enjoyed the ghost pepper mead.

I went for a cool hike with Haven to the Maryland ghost town of Daniels.

I went back to the gardening that I had been missing in Spain.

Apparently it was pretty dry when we were gone but we brought the rain back with us.

Then it was back to work.
My work is important. We are looking for cancer treatments and cures.
My work is cool. I spend all day with big liquid handling robots.
I’m not bad at my work. I just got promoted to supervisor for laboratory automation for the natural product support group. Which is a mouthful but sounds very spiffy.
My work is also, irrefutably work.
It was so great being able to sleep and eat and wander at will.
I am grateful for my work but man I would retire in a heartbeat if I had the money.
This first week back we were busy on the side peeping for bring your child to work day.
Good stuff.

The next weekend Megan and I bundled up in Kelsey’s car and headed off to New Jersey for Krishna’s baby shower.

It was really cool.

First of all we love to see Krishna. And of course we love to eat Indian food.
Nom!
I have to say that Krishna is getting up and down from squats or under tables looking for decorations better than any pregnant person I have ever seen.
2 points to you Krishna!

We had bring your child to work day in which robotically aliquoted sea creatures played a role.

I got my SCA Kingdom of Atlantia University degree.

Canadian wildfires had me masking again.

And Kiernan made fried chicken from scratch.

In the morning before work I took him to the store and bought him a chicken and some buttermilk and some oil and when I got back home this was just coming off the stove.

That boy is a marvel!

To round out the month we did a big yard work job.
The brush by the parking pad had gotten out of control.

We cut down small trees and cleared (non berry) brush.

We cleared leaves and sprayed poison ivy.

We worked in the hot hot heat and fished it all in one day.
Woo.

Easily accessible berries for all!
