For 4th of July I was a watermelon in a patriotic hat. HA!
In July we picked lots of berries from the yard and made a number of cobblers.
I tried skillet cobblers this time. You basically fry some fruit in sugar then pour batter over them and bake the whole thing. Pretty easy and very tasty. It has lots of the crispy edges that I like.
We also tried smashed taco burgers using impossible burger.
I am going to try to make all of these in a vegetarian version.
I loved those.
It was very cloudy and rainy and lightning filled on the evening of 4th of July.
They kept pushing back the fire works until we just left. At about 10:30 I heard them going off but I was already in bed.
Mount Airy always does theirs on the 3rd so we had another day to try on the 4th.
We had David's dad and sister over for a cook out and annual Kuehnert 4th of July Tie Dye.
It was muggy but not too hot because of all the clouds.
Then we did our own Fireworks in the evening. The hills were alive with explosions set off by neighbors far and near.
Good stuff!
My favorite of the tie dye was this onesie set for Krishnas baby to be.
Kiernan and I got some good bike riding in read more about that here.
The first great tomato sandwiches from local tomatoes came along.
I made even more cobbler.
Also a fair bread.
We went as a family to the White House to do the tour.
David took this picture of us in front of the Oval Office.
The tour was very lively. There were people stopping press officers and a senator pulled aside some constituents and an interview was happening as we passed by.
As we were leaving a door guard complimented my shoes and I was very pleased.
We had a lot of day left when we were done so we took the kids to some museums they hadn't been to before.
I am please to report that they like the modern art museum.
Kiernan and I rode bikes again. We are riding along the C&O tow path and its very pretty.
My curry tree had a baby :)
The garden started giving us great offerings.
I went to an animal themed Bardic at Haven and sang 'Froggy Went a Courtin' to rousing success. I also told the Camino Chicken Miracle story.
Frederick is lovely.
Speaking of lovely.
Look at this pregnancy shoot picture.
Go Krishna!
I had lunch with Alex and we tried many pink smoothies.
I am currently trying all of the smoothies at Common market.
They have way too many bananas. Waaayyyy to many.
More garden pics.
We went to a meadery with Michelle. I am trying to get our D&D group together more. Its tricky as we are no longer playing but I like my friends and wish to spend time with them. None of us has time. Mead was a good idea.
I am trying to think of other good lures. Wish me luck.
We went innertubing. I hope we can do it again before t he summer is over.
I love this gang of Kuehnerts.
We also went to the first convention for the kids.
Megan is into Anime and has been wanting to do cosplay so we went to Otakon
I think everyone enjoyed it. We saw some great costumes and meg got a cool new outfit. We found a few new fun shows to watch.
Here is her new outfit.
Summer food is a thing I am not at all tired of.
