April 2024

April was a month of highs.
I present to you the cake tasting menu of Calandras Italian Village

I went with Kelsey up to New Jersey to visit Krishna and play with the baby.
While we were there Krishna convinced me of the culinary greatness of NJ.
We are so much cake!

Additionally I feel that NJ bagels are just as good as the ones in NYC and that shocked me. I’m such a fan of bagels. Delightful!

As fans of Hamilton we were honor bound to go check out the Weehawken dueling grounds, where the Hamilton Burr duel took place.

Right across from Krishna’s place was a beautiful cemetery that I really enjoyed walking around in.

For the month of April we decided to do a 30 day Pilates challenge.
This is an ancient routine that David and I did way back in the day. In fact we have the dvd still but we were able to find it on YouTube.

Feel free to play along.

I loved the April flowers.

I semi loved my decision (after reading a book touting the wonders of fermentation for health) my experiment with drinks.

I quite like kefir and very much do not love kombucha.

The nicer end of fermentation had us eating fresh bread. Check out this ring baguette that I baked from a batch of dough that Kiernan made.

The CSA season started up and early in the year the boxes have a lot of over winter foods like apples and potatoes and dried beans.
I used the sweet apples to make a big batch of apple fritters.

I’ve kept up with my Lord of the Rings walking challenge and made it to Bilbos trolls.

More bread.

More flowers.

I tried rollerblading on Mount Airys only flat path. I was hoping that as ice skating doesn’t hurt my feet rollerblading would be the same.
I found this cool log being carved by the path.

Now I’ve got rollerblades and socks in my trunk all the time like it’s the 90s.

I also cooked up some fern heads.

Another high for the month was the eclipse.

I wore an appropriate shirt and made sure we all had the right glasses and took time off work for activities.

It was so cool.

We ate eclipse burgers.

We went to the ESSL where we watched a planetarium show about the sun.

We looked at the sun through their telescope.

We did random lab activities and looked at birds and fish.
It was a fun day.

Here is a look at our every other week CSA box contents.

The final high of the month was a short trip to the beach.
It was windy and chilly and early enough to be cheap.
We played much mini-golf.

We ate at Kiernan’s favorite Saint Michael’s restaurant

Our April museum trip was to the Smithsonian American History Museum.

We saw the great prince guitar.

We also saw C4PO and Miss Piggy.
Finally we saw the original Star Spangled Banner flag.
Good stuff.
