We had a fire to jump over for May Day. Megan of the broken foot could not jump but the rest of us did it for her.
I read a Michael Pollan book that extoled the virtues of fermented food for gut health so I tried to do a kefir or kombucha every day for the month of May.
If you have been following along in our bike adventure blog you will have seen that I got a new bike.
Its so good!
For May the 4th we went all out this year.
I made death star waffles.
David made TIE fighter veggie meats and fruit light sabers.
I wore jedi robes much of the day.
We went out to Atomic music for David to sell some gear and trade in some gear for a new Mesa/Boogie stereo power amp and I changed into regular cloths but was sorry to have done so when I saw a woman there in full on white princess Leia robes with the hair buns and everything.
Mad props to you my secret sister.
For dinner we had BB8 pizza and 7 Leia dip.
We watched Star Wars cartoons and drank more kombucha.
then we put away the jedi robes for another day.
We got duck eggs with our CSA box asd scrambeled them up.
I found a bunch of 4 leaf clovers on my work walks.
The clematis went kaboom all at once and there was purple everywhere.
I tried a TikTok grilled cheese and pickle sandwich. Very nice!
I dragged David to a Silent book club.
This is a book club where everyone brings whatever they are reading and sits silently at a bar or restaurant and reads and eats for an hour.
Its a great idea.
I started my project garden on Mothers Day. My grandma told me that there is no use planting anything outside until Mothers Day and I am following her advice for this one.
The plan this year is to have a garden that could have existed in Maryland around 1535.
It was a lot to clean up as I'd left it alone until Mothers Day specifically.
These are great heirloom seeds for the 3 sisters garden of corn squash and beans. Please let me know if you want more details on these, or planting details, I have a ton.
We went out to eat at Wine Kitchen and it was fantastic. This is a mushroom strudel.
I got mom a massage and Mary some pizza for their celebrations.
My car got to 250,000 miles. Woo. This is the line where I start calling a car a good car.
Its been paid off for years and its still in pretty good shape and 3 cheers for Toyota!
I voted in the primaries.
I'm not ecstatic with many of our choices this year.
I am ecstatic about our bay house trip.
We rented an Air B&B with some of the girls (Kelsey and Krishna and her family, and Michelle but she couldn't make it).
This house was amazing.
It was right on the water and had lots of cool gear for us to try out.
No sooner had we put down our bags than Megan ran outside dragged a kayak to the shore and disappeared into the distance of the Chester River.
She is a natural on the water.
Every view was a postcard view.
I saw a young Eagle catching a fish.
It was quiet and peaceful and lovly.
The view out our bedroom window (can you see it up there?) was water and trees and gorgeous.
The town nearby, Chestertown, had a very nice bakery and a farmers market.
It's one of the older towns in Maryland (1706) and even had Frederick beat for cool colonial structures.
It was rainy but not cold and David and I went exploring.
Then back to the house for playing with Krishnas adoirable baby and hanging out with great friends.
When the weather cleared up I went biking and then back out on the water.
I learned to paddleboard. it was hard and fun all at once. Kiernan did a bit as well.
We both fell in some (I fell in more) and both mastered it to some degree.
I got to do some reading and laying around and that too was fantastic.
I cooked a little and we at a lot of takeout pizza and drank some of Dharmesh's (Krishna's husband) delicious coffee.
Also we had some bangin ice cream.
We were there on their colleges graduation weekend so our plans to go out to eat were repeatedly thwarted.
More pizza for all.
I hit 800 on my Duolingo.
We did more Pilates. My children are very bendy.
Megan and I took down all the elementary school art and started a current art display wall.
Here it is so far plus our C&O bike map.
I discovered that I hate Wild Bay kombucha least of all.
Winning praise indeed.
We got some beets from the CSA. I am picking up new beet recipes even now.
Look at this adorable baby turtle we rescued on a bike ride.
Read more about that on the bike blog .
Also learn of this delightful coffee place.
We went fishing with Opa and Aunt Lore.
We caught nothing and it was lovly.
the 1535 garden started showing signs of life.
Kiernan did me a huge favor and helped me map out my long term prayer labyrinth project.
It is now walkable. I am delighted.
We are using stones from Licia's front yard that she wants rid of.
I got a cool new tattoo.
It is a Saint Brigid's cross.
I like so many things about Bridgid. This is a good one. I had it done by Jason Dorrier in Hagerstown. He was very nice and loves Star Wars so we had plenty to talk about. I had it done fairly barebones as I am hoping to incorporate it into a larger design. Cross your fingers.
One of the most random things we did in May was on a random impulse turn off the highway to try out a golf driving range place.
I was home with Kiernan and we were driving home from getting some food when he mentioned that he had always wanted to try that golf place so we did.
It was low key amazing. We are absolutely going back.
