The pictures have loaded upside-down in this one so you will see June form end to beginning.
I made carrot top corn bread. I loved it.
You must admit the CSA carrot tops are pretty darn lush.
If ever I were to cook with some it would be these.
We got our first from the deck summer tomato. Oh my goodness it was so sweet.
I love summer tomatoes so much.
Here are those carrots and all their companions as they came home.
June brought the hot and the flowers and the many sports I love to watch.
F1 has been nice this year.
Here is a screen grab from a game that I love called Jedi Fallen Order.
It is a Star Wars game and in it you see BD-1 my very favorite Star Wars droid.
I have been working on a full sized BD-1 on and off for a few years now.
June saw a renewed attention to the project.
Here are his mostly assembled parts.
My favorite thing about this 3D print is that its fully articulated so if I put it together right (and don't glue any of the wrong bits to each other) I can pose him all around.
You might guess from these many 3D printed pictures that we got a new printer. These are Japanese beetle traps.
I made a solution of yeast and dish soap and old fruit to lure them to their deaths.
Death to the pests!
We have been playing lots of Minecraft together.
Its so great to have a game that everyone likes and can just hang out in doing their own things. A sandbox game like Minecraft allows Kiernan to fight baddies and me to wander off to distant horizons. It lets David delve too deep and Megan to adopt a million cats. I am a big fan of Minecraft.
My dads friend Tom died. I usually think of him as my dads best friend. We've known him since we were little. I remember exploring instruments and eating Indian food and getting rare and exotic rupees from him when I was maybe 7 or 8. He was always Tommy then and his brother Danny and sisters Patty and Polly were always in the periphery of our world. Even when my dad left the church they were still friends and that wasn't always the case with the old Adventist crew. Divorce wasn't as accepted back then.
I remember my dad coming back from the Kerrville folk festival one year with hilarious stories about going with Tom to get the hottest burgers in Texas. I remember going one year Christmas caroling in Takoma park with Tommy and a whole group of hippy musicians and in that year my super quiet sister jumping in and leading everyone with Elvis' Blue Christmas.
He was remarkable and sincere and gifted.
Here is his most famous song. He wrote it about George Floyd.
and here is my favorite of his. I have this great memory of him doing it in a backyard concert just before my dad and Mary left for Hawaii.
My dad, despite having been very very sick for most of the last month with RSV and pneumonia flew out to the mainland for the funeral.
My uncle drove him up just in time for the service.
It was a beautiful service. Full of music and kindness and grief.
I saw so many people that knew as a child. I sat between my mom and my uncle and watched and listened.
The stained glass in that church was even designed by someone I knew as a kid.
It's a church that some of my friends still go to. I was happy and relieved to be found by Ashish while I was eating.
I've kept up my walking and am almost to Moira. That is fair progress given the state of my feet.
These conqueror challenges are lots of fun.
Here is some nature form my work walks.
Here are some 384 plates we made for our take your child to work day.
Have a look at our new lab page on the NCI site. You can see my hands in purple gloves.
I think those are my hands anyway.
Here is a cool chromatography and crystal activity the kids did.
Here are my kids names grown into dishes.
Here are the many parts of BD-1 before I assembled them.
I rediscovered a book series I loved in the 90s and am now trying to collect them.
They are out of print and tricky to come by.
I will comb used book stores.
Wish me luck!
I got to see Martin and we may be back to having regular lunches and that is great.
The pumpkins are producing flowers and little pumpkins (that is all mom).
The volunteer tomatoes are doing their thing.
Kiernan's barley is coming along beautifully.
The blueberries look promising.
My 1535 garden is doing well except for the corn which is a complete no show.
I think the squirrels have gotten to it. I am going to try the corn again and see what happens. For the time being I've put in some stakes for the beans have something to climb.
We did more biking.
For Fathers Day Jessica and I got our dad a Hawaiian shirt with his dogs on it.
He loved it.
The kids and I took David to food and guitars and got him a custom funko pop figure with a guitar and coffee in hand
We also took Opa out for a C&O walk and made him a meal of Thai and Vietnamese food.
More rocks made it into the labyrinth.
Alex and I went to a sea shanties sing along and it was the most musical fun I have had since I left Haven and had a bardic.
Such a good time!
Now I want to learn to play the Irish Bouzouki.
I stopped minding kombucha so much. Still not my favorite drink but I don't flinch when I try it now.
The bees found the lavender and the front walk is humming with them.
I printed a little BD-1 to have something finished.
I am still learning piano and if you wish to enjoy my stumbling but enthusiastic progress please go here to my music channel.
An example here:
We went rollerblading and my feet didn't hurt. I am so 90's. Hahaha
We printed a few articulated dragons that are super neat.
I printed a lightsaber hilt that feels great in the hand.
Kiernan made some great bread.
We boxer up the old 3D printer and took it to Megan's tech ed teacher as a donation and she (Ms. Clark) was very very happy to have it.
I really like her.
Our new printer can do 4 colors at once.
It is fast and accurate.
It has a simple and intuitive user interface.
It came with free filament samples.
David set it up in record time.
The best part is that he got it using his tech budget from work so we will be covered for the cost.
I made whipped coffee to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of summer then let my children free for sleep and games and the wonder of no schedule. They both did really well this year. Kiernan got a 3.6 gpa and Megan got on the honor roll.
We got garlic scrapes form the CSA and you should definitely get some and grill them and put them on burgers.
YUMMMM!
We went to top golf and we love it.
We played video game like driving games and hung out drinking fruity drinks and eating very good nachos.
So fancy!
We are clearly on our way to becoming golf pros.
It was a wonderful environment, outside but inside, relatively private and comfortable. It reminded me of bowling as far as the family friendly vibes.
10 out of 10 would go again.
