The Superbug
So Megan's 2nd culture came back and it was positive for MRSA. Please read this is you don't know what MRSA is.
In the ER they took a culture and prescribed 2 antibiotics. One of the antibiotics was for MRSA and the other was a standard antibiotic treatment.
During our follow up appointment we got the results of that culture (Negative for MRSA) and Dr. Hsu took another sample just in case (this one MRSA positive).
The scary thing for me is that because of the results from the first culture, we took Megan off of the MRSA specific antibiotic (Cephalexin).
She seems to be recovering well on the more standard treatment (Bactrim) and I am taking comfort in that.
But
Taking a partial dose of any antibiotic is a dicey thing to do because it can lead to antibiotic resistance in the infecting bacteria. Obviously I would rather not create 'resistant' MRSA.
Ug.
